The Jay Asher novel 13 Reasons Why is being adapted for the screen by Universal Pictures and Strike Entertainment, and there was apparently no doubt in their minds as to who should star in the movie. OceanUp brings word that the movie, which is being produced by Eric Newman, Marx Abraham and Mandy Teefey from July Moon Productions, is being seen as a ‘star vehicle’ for Selena Gomez.
The Asher novel is about a young boy, Clay Jenson, who comes home from school one day and finds a package containing seven cassette tapes. The tapes are messages from Hannah Baker, a classmate who committed suicide, and 12 other people will also hear her recorded message. The rest of the book concerns Clay going to the locations that Hannah wants him to visit.
There aren’t any details yet on the role Selena will play but I’m guessing she might somehow play Hannah since that’s the female lead. It sounds like a very dramatic role for the Wizards of Waverly Place star. Do you think she’s a good fit for something like this?
