Wizards of Waverly Place Summon Trouble for Disney Channel

By on January 31, 2011

The Wizards of Waverly Place are getting a visitor from ‘above’ and Disney Infonet is reporting that not everyone is happy about the angelic guest, and they’re not shy about letting the Disney Channel know about it. The three-episode story arc starts on February 4th and is called Wizards VS. Angels.

Apparently some people are concerned about religious characters being on a kids show, worrying that angels might be seen as fictional characters because they’re appearing on a fictional show. Others have voiced the opinion that religious icons shouldn’t be on the show because angels could be misrepresented and that it should be left up to parents and churches to teach about angels and other aspects of religion.

Personally, I think some people might be getting carried away and not giving kids the credit they deserve. Yes, the show is fictional but there’s a school in the story. Does this mean schools aren’t real? Of course not. Following the same train of thought, it can’t really be implied that angels aren’t real simply because the show is fiction.

I agree that it’s up to churches and parents to teach their kids about religion. The first lesson parents need to teach is that a lot of what’s seen on TV is make-believe, even if the show happens to include elements of reality. Hmmm… maybe some adults need to be taught that lesson, too.

Wizards of Waverly Place might be coming to an end but that doesn’t mean it’s time to kick back as Selena Gomez gets ready to hit the road with the Scene and Greg Sulkin has been busy with the recently aired Avalon High. Bailee Madion even got a little camera time while sharing her favorite moments during her brief time on the Disney series.

some elements of fictional shows can be real. It kind of lends itself to the intellect in which their viewers decide what is real or not.
Another example of this is when people disagree about the idea of Selena and David Henrie, dating because they play Brother and sister. First of all, they aren’t and will soon not be at all, as WOWP comes to an end. Secondly, they can say it all they like, that they think of each other like family, but perhaps it’s because they are still young, but their chemistry is like no brother/sister I know!!
