YouTube Kids brings us Reading Month which helps encourage children’s love of reading. Dolly Parton, country legend and literacy advocate, has created a special playlist for everyone to enjoy. Our favorite video of her playlist is Dolly Parton – Coat of Many Colors (Lyric Video) which has some fun animation going along with it. There are a lot of great read along videos on her playlist from the women who has started the Imagination Library. This great book gifting program mails free books to children from birth to age 5 in certain communities within the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.
In addition to Dolly Parton’s playlist there will be a bunch of other celebrity #Readalongs including Jimmy Fallon, Viola Davis, and Kristen Bell as they read some of their favorite kids books. From Jimmy Fallon’s list we just love Ludacris Llama Llama Red Pajama Freestyle that he has on his list. Jojo Siwa is sharing the Nickelodeon playlist, which also has some great videos on it as well.
Not only are there playlists, but YouTube Kids introduced a “Word of the Day,” where viewers will see a cool tile in their Recommended category. If you click on it, you will get directed to a screen which will introduce them to a new “word of the day” as well as a video displayed below it.

There are a lot of great celebrities attached to this YouTube Kids Kick Off Reading Month Initiative and everyone can help spread the word. There are a lot of great videos in these playlists and the introduction of “Word of the Day” to help everyone get involved. Also don’t forget to check out Imagination Library as that is another great program that Dolly has started in 1995 that had been inspired by her own father’s inability to reach and write.
