Some of the most beloved animated series and films have come to life thanks to the work of talented artists, storytellers and production teams working together to bring these imaginative worlds to our screens.
And as the animation industry continues to evolve, so do the ways studios approach creating new content for audiences around the world.
Now, WildBrain, the entertainment company behind beloved properties including Strawberry Shortcake, Teletubbies and Inspector Gadget, is taking another step forward with the announcement of a new long-term strategic partnership with animation and visual effects studio EightyEight Pictures.
The collaboration will bring together WildBrain and House of Cool’s creative leadership and storytelling expertise with EightyEight Pictures’ established CG animation production capabilities, allowing the companies to work together on a larger scale across upcoming projects.
Under the new agreement, WildBrain and House of Cool will continue overseeing the creative direction, filmmaking and core production responsibilities from their Canadian operations, while EightyEight Pictures will provide additional CG animation support through a shared production pipeline.
Something that will allow the studios to expand their production capabilities while maintaining a consistent creative vision throughout the development process.
And EightyEight Pictures is certainly no stranger to working on major animated properties.
Founded by CEO Milind D. Shinde, the studio has contributed to projects associated with franchises including Trollhunters, Kung Fu Panda, Gremlins and Star Wars: Visions. Its current feature projects also include High in the Clouds and Bahubali: The Eternal War.
The partnership comes as WildBrain continues to expand and adapt its animation operations to support both premium productions and digital-first entertainment. As part of those efforts, the company is also preparing to relocate its Vancouver animation studio to a new 47,000-square-foot facility in the city’s Mount Pleasant neighborhood in January 2027.
And while the new agreement will provide additional production capacity, WildBrain will retain its in-house pre-production and post-production capabilities for both traditional 2D and CG animation.
For an industry where animated productions often involve teams working across multiple locations, the partnership represents another way for studios to bring together creative talent and technical resources while supporting the increasingly ambitious projects being developed for audiences.
With WildBrain and House of Cool continuing to guide the creative process and EightyEight Pictures providing additional production support, the companies are looking to build a more connected and flexible approach to bringing animated stories to life.
And as the demand for animated entertainment continues across television, streaming and digital platforms, it will be interesting to see what new projects emerge from this collaboration in the years ahead.
