Get ready for another holiday adventure with Greg Heffley and his family because Disney+ is bringing the beloved Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise back to our screens this December with an all-new animated Christmas movie!
That’s right, the Heffley family is packing their bags and heading somewhere a little different for the holidays in Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: The Getaway, the newest installment inspired by Jeff Kinney’s bestselling book series. And while most families might be preparing for a Christmas filled with snow, decorations and familiar holiday traditions, the Heffleys have decided to trade it all in for a little sunshine and relaxation.
Of course, anyone familiar with Greg and his family’s previous adventures knows that things rarely go quite according to plan.
In the upcoming animated film, the Heffley family makes a last-minute decision to escape the stress of the holiday season with a trip to an all-inclusive island resort. But what is supposed to be a relaxing family getaway quickly becomes another unexpected adventure as Greg and the rest of his family discover that their tropical paradise might not be quite as perfect as they had imagined.
The newly released trailer gives fans a first look at the holiday misadventure waiting for the family, bringing back the familiar humor, sibling antics and family chaos that have made Diary of a Wimpy Kid such a recognizable part of children’s entertainment over the years.
And joining Greg on his newest adventure is a returning collection of familiar faces, with Jacob Isaac Peterson voicing Greg Heffley alongside Chris Diamantopoulos as Frank, Erica Cerra as Susan, Hunter Dillon as Rodrick and Gracen Newton as Manny. Jude Zarzaur also joins the cast as Greg’s best friend Rowley, with Fred Armisen, Beau Bridges, Jeff Hiller and Keyla Monterroso Mejia voicing characters the family encounters during their getaway.
Behind the scenes, the new animated movie is directed by Matt Danner, who previously worked on Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw, with series creator Jeff Kinney returning to write and produce the latest installment.
With another family vacation on the verge of becoming a disaster, Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: The Getaway looks to bring a little extra humor to the holiday season as Greg discovers that sometimes getting away from it all can lead to an even bigger mess.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: The Getaway premieres December 4, 2026, exclusively on Disney+. Fans can also revisit the previous animated adventures through the Diary of a Wimpy Kid collection currently available on the streaming service.
