For more than a decade, readers have been exploring the world of Pyrrhia, following the adventures of its many dragons as they navigate friendships, rivalries, prophecies and the challenges that come with discovering their own places in the world.
And while the Wings of Fire franchise has continued to grow through its original novels and graphic novel adaptations, it looks like fans will soon have some new ways to celebrate the characters and stories that have made the series such a beloved part of children’s literature.
That’s right, Wings of Fire is officially expanding into a new collection of toys, collectibles and apparel!
The Joester Loria Group, representing author Tui T. Sutherland and Writers House, has announced the first major partnerships for its new Wings of Fire licensing program, bringing together Just Play and Bioworld to develop a variety of products inspired by the bestselling fantasy series.
And for fans who have been waiting for an opportunity to bring some of their favorite dragons off the pages and into their own collections, there is quite a bit to look forward to.
Under a new multi-year agreement, Just Play will be developing a collection of Wings of Fire toys, including plush, figures and collectibles inspired by the franchise. While specific characters and designs have yet to be revealed, the new assortment is currently scheduled to arrive in stores in fall 2027.
Given just how many different dragons have been introduced throughout the series, there are certainly plenty of possibilities when it comes to which characters could make their way into the collection. And with the books featuring such a wide variety of dragon tribes, each with their own distinct appearances and abilities, it will be interesting to see how those designs are translated into physical toys.
But the upcoming merchandise won’t be limited to collectibles.
Bioworld is also joining the licensing program with an extensive collection of clothing and accessories designed for children and tweens. Scheduled to launch in spring 2027, the assortment will include graphic T-shirts, hoodies, sleepwear, backpacks, lunch bags, hats and drinkware, offering fans different ways to bring their love of the series into their everyday lives.
The announcement comes at an interesting time for Wings of Fire, which has continued to establish itself as one of the most successful middle-grade fantasy franchises since the release of its first novel in July 2012.
With more than 39 million copies in print across 16 languages, the series has introduced generations of young readers to its expansive world of dragons, with new audiences continuing to discover the books through both the original novels and their graphic novel adaptations.
And there is still more on the horizon for the publishing side of the franchise.
Darkness of Dragons: A Graphic Novel is scheduled for release on December 29, bringing another installment of Sutherland’s fantasy saga into the illustrated format that has helped introduce the story to additional readers.
What makes this new licensing announcement particularly exciting is that Wings of Fire has always been a franchise with a world that feels much larger than the pages of its books. Between its different dragon tribes, memorable characters and the many locations that make up its fantasy setting, there is a great deal of material that could lend itself to toys and collectibles.
And now, with Just Play and Bioworld officially joining the franchise, fans will finally have an opportunity to see more of that world represented through merchandise created specifically for the series.
The first Wings of Fire apparel and accessories from Bioworld are expected to launch in spring 2027, followed by Just Play’s new toy and collectible assortment in fall 2027.
For now, we’ll have to wait a little longer to discover exactly which dragons will be making their way into the new collections!
