Where’s Spot? The Beloved Puppy Is Getting a Brand-New Animated Series from Guru Studio and Karrot Entertainment!

There are some childhood stories that, no matter how much time passes, never seem to lose their charm.

Stories that might have been among the very first books we ever held in our hands, filled with colorful illustrations, memorable characters and little surprises waiting to be discovered with every turn of the page.

And for generations of young readers, there’s one particularly curious puppy who has made those early reading adventures rather unforgettable.

A little yellow dog with brown spots, floppy ears and a wonderful talent for getting himself into all sorts of unexpected places.

That’s right, we’re talking about Spot!

Since making his debut in Eric Hill’s beloved children’s book “Where’s Spot?” back in 1980, the playful puppy has spent more than four decades encouraging children to explore, discover and, of course, lift those wonderful little flaps to see what’s hiding underneath.

And now, another generation of preschoolers is preparing to discover the magic of Spot’s world in an entirely new way.

Because this little puppy is heading back to television!

Guru Studio and Karrot Entertainment have officially announced a new co-production partnership to develop and produce an animated preschool series based on Eric Hill’s beloved “Spot” books, bringing the curious little puppy and his adventures to screens around the world.

And considering the animation studios involved, there’s certainly plenty to be excited about.

The upcoming series will feature 39 seven-minute episodes, introducing young audiences to Spot, his family and his friends as they explore the world around them.

Much like the original books, the series will center on Spot’s endless curiosity and enthusiasm for discovering new things, transforming familiar everyday experiences into playful adventures filled with surprises.

And, of course, the spirit of those iconic lift-the-flap discoveries will remain an important part of the storytelling.

After all, there’s something rather special about the way Eric Hill’s books invited children to become part of Spot’s adventures.

Instead of simply following along as a story unfolded, young readers were encouraged to interact with the pages themselves, opening little doors, looking beneath objects and discovering what might be hiding just out of sight.

It was a wonderfully simple idea, but one that helped transform the act of reading into a playful experience.

And for many children, those early encounters with Spot became an important introduction to the joy of books.

Now, the creative teams at Guru Studio and Karrot Entertainment are preparing to bring that same sense of curiosity and discovery into a new animated format.

But while the medium may be changing, the heart of Spot’s adventures will remain familiar.

Because sometimes the most exciting discoveries aren’t found in faraway kingdoms or magical worlds.

Sometimes they’re waiting just around the corner, underneath a table or somewhere in your own backyard.

And that’s always been part of Spot’s charm.

He’s an ordinary little puppy whose curiosity makes even the simplest experiences feel like extraordinary adventures.

Of course, bringing such a beloved literary character to animation comes with its own unique expectations.

And that’s where the partnership between Guru Studio and Karrot Entertainment becomes particularly interesting.

Both studios have extensive experience creating animated entertainment for younger audiences, including several properties that have become familiar favorites among preschoolers and their families.

Guru Studio is perhaps best known for its work on the global preschool phenomenon “PAW Patrol,” alongside productions such as “True and the Rainbow Kingdom” and the “Sesame Street” animated spin-off “Mecha Builders.”

The studio has also worked on an animated adaptation of the literary classic “Charlotte’s Web” for HBO Max and Sesame Workshop, giving it experience translating established children’s literature into animated storytelling.

Meanwhile, Karrot Entertainment has contributed to beloved preschool properties including “Peppa Pig,” while also creating the charming animated series “Sarah & Duck” and adapting literary characters through projects such as “My Friend Maisy.”

And with both studios bringing their own creative experiences to the project, there’s an exciting opportunity to introduce Spot to a new generation while preserving the qualities that made his books so memorable.

Because adapting a beloved children’s property isn’t simply about bringing familiar illustrations to life.

It’s about understanding why audiences connected with those characters in the first place.

For Spot, that connection has always been rooted in curiosity, playful discovery and the wonderfully recognizable experiences of early childhood.

Whether he’s exploring his surroundings, spending time with his family or finding himself in an unexpected situation, Spot’s adventures reflect the way young children experience the world around them.

Everything is new, everything is worth investigating, and sometimes the smallest discoveries can bring the biggest smiles.

It’s a storytelling approach that has helped Eric Hill’s creation become one of the most recognizable characters in children’s publishing.

Since the release of “Where’s Spot?” in 1980, the book series has sold more than 65 million copies worldwide, with editions translated into more than 60 languages, including braille and sign language.

The stories have also appeared in more than 20 different publishing formats, ranging from traditional lift-the-flap books to board books and novelty editions.

And even after more than four decades, Spot’s publishing adventures are showing no signs of slowing down.

Puffin, part of Penguin Random House Children’s UK, continues to release new Spot titles each year, helping introduce the little puppy to families discovering his stories for the very first time.

In the United Kingdom alone, more than one million Spot books have been sold since 2020, more than double the number sold during the preceding four years.

The series has also experienced continued growth in international markets, including the United States and Australia.

It’s an impressive achievement for a character whose earliest adventures were built around such a simple, imaginative concept.

And perhaps that’s exactly why Spot has remained so beloved.

His stories don’t need enormous adventures or complicated conflicts to capture a child’s imagination.

Instead, they celebrate the excitement of exploration, the comfort of familiar surroundings and the joy of discovering something unexpected.

These are experiences that remain meaningful to young children regardless of when or where they grow up.

And by preserving that foundation, the upcoming animated series has an opportunity to introduce Spot’s world to an entirely new audience while offering longtime fans a familiar little friend to revisit.

The new series is being developed in partnership with Puffin, the publisher behind the original books, ensuring that Eric Hill’s literary legacy remains an important part of the production.

And while specific animation details and broadcast partners have not yet been announced, fans won’t have to wait too long for their first glimpse of the project.

Guru Studio and Karrot Entertainment will unveil new material from the upcoming “Spot” series at MIPCOM 2026, where the studios will present a proof of concept to potential broadcasting and distribution partners from around the world.

Meanwhile, the broader “Fun with Spot” licensing program, managed by Penguin Ventures, will continue supporting the franchise through toys, apparel, live experiences and other family-focused products.

It’s another step in the continued growth of a character who has already spent decades bringing smiles to young readers.

And there’s something particularly fitting about seeing Spot prepare for a new animated adventure at a time when children’s entertainment continues finding fresh ways to introduce classic literary properties to modern audiences.

Because while technology, animation and the ways families enjoy stories have certainly evolved since 1980, the simple joy of discovering something new hasn’t changed very much at all.

Children are still curious.

They still love surprises.

And they still find endless excitement in the smallest adventures.

Which makes Spot just as relevant today as he was when young readers first lifted those little flaps to discover where he had been hiding.

The new “Spot” animated preschool series is currently in development, with 39 seven-minute episodes planned. Additional details, including its eventual release and broadcasting partners, have yet to be announced.

But with Guru Studio and Karrot Entertainment joining forces, the beloved little puppy is preparing for another exciting chapter in his remarkable history.

And for the generations of families who have spent years asking one very familiar question, there’s something rather wonderful about knowing the adventure is continuing.

So, where’s Spot?

Well, it looks like he’s getting ready for his next big adventure.

And we can’t wait to see where his curiosity takes him next!

Mother of three. That does not include the dog or my husband either! We have a full household of fun and we just love trying new products of all varieties. May not watch as many kids shows as the rest of the family though.
