There is something about the festive season that makes revisiting some of our favorite television families all the more special. Whether it’s gathering around the television to enjoy a familiar seasonal classic or discovering a new adventure filled with music, laughter and a little unexpected chaos, these stories have a way of becoming part of our annual traditions. And when it comes to animated families who know a thing or two about getting themselves into some rather unforgettable situations, the Proud family certainly has earned its place among them.
Since first introducing audiences to Penny Proud and her wonderfully eccentric family in the early 2000s, The Proud Family has remained a beloved part of Disney’s animated television history. With its revival, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, bringing the characters into a new era, fans have been able to reconnect with familiar faces while a new generation discovers the humor, heart and family dynamics that made the original series so memorable.
Now, just in time for the festive season, Penny and the rest of the Proud family are preparing for an entirely different kind of adventure. And this time, they’re bringing a little stop-motion magic along for the ride!
Disney+ has officially announced that A Proud Family Wizmas, an all-new musical stop-motion special, will premiere November 14, 2026. Alongside the premiere date, Disney has revealed a star-studded lineup of guest voices joining the familiar cast for an adventure that finds Penny facing one of her biggest challenges yet: saving Christmas after accidentally destroying it!
The upcoming special follows Penny as she inadvertently changes Christmas as everyone knows it, leaving her with the rather overwhelming responsibility of setting things right. Reluctantly accepting the challenge, Penny must find a way to restore the festive spirit for the children of Emilyville and the rest of the world. And knowing Penny’s history of navigating unexpected situations, it’s probably safe to assume that this particular mission won’t unfold quite as smoothly as she might hope.
Joining the adventure is an impressive collection of guest stars, including Anderson .Paak as Mall Elf, Lil Rel Howery as Bubble, JB Smoove as Mall Santa, Karlous Miller as Benny, Tone Loc as Penny Loc, Earthquake as Big Mack, Luenell as Belinda and Affion Crockett as Billy. Gabrielle Union will also return as Talia Rogue, adding another familiar voice to the growing cast.
Of course, a Proud family adventure wouldn’t be complete without the characters who have helped make the franchise such a memorable part of Disney’s animated lineup. Kyla Pratt returns as Penny Proud alongside Tommy Davidson as Oscar, Paula Jai Parker as Trudy, JoMarie Payton as Suga Mama and Cedric the Entertainer as Uncle Bobby. Also returning are Karen Malina White as Dijonay, Soleil Moon Frye as Zoey, Alisa Reyes as LaCienega, Carlos Mencia as Felix, Alvaro Gutierrez as Papi, Raquel Lee Bolleau as Nubia and Melissa De Sousa as Sunset.
What makes A Proud Family Wizmas particularly interesting is its departure from the familiar animation style of the television series. By bringing the characters into a stop-motion setting, the special offers audiences an opportunity to experience the Proud family’s world through a different visual approach, something that feels especially fitting for a seasonal adventure. Stop-motion animation has long held a special place in festive television traditions, and seeing a modern Disney animated family embrace the medium offers an intriguing combination of nostalgia and something new.
And there’s plenty of music to look forward to as well! Kurt Farquhar returns as songwriter and composer, with six new original songs featured throughout the special, adding another layer of festive fun to Penny’s rather unusual mission.
Produced by Disney Television Animation, A Proud Family Wizmas is directed by series creator and executive producer Bruce W. Smith, with a script from executive producer Ralph Farquhar. David Brooks serves as co-director, with Portland-based stop-motion studio HouseSpecial collaborating on the production.
For longtime fans who grew up watching Penny and her family, the special offers another opportunity to revisit characters who have remained part of Disney’s animated legacy for more than two decades. Meanwhile, younger viewers who discovered the Proud family through Louder and Prouder will get to see them take on an entirely new adventure, complete with festive surprises, familiar humor and the importance of making things right when everything goes unexpectedly wrong.
A Proud Family Wizmas premieres November 14 exclusively on Disney+. Families looking to revisit the franchise before the special arrives can also stream The Proud Family, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder and The Proud Family Movie on the platform.
With an impressive guest cast, six original songs and a completely different animation style, it looks like the Proud family is preparing to bring its own distinctive brand of chaos and heart to the festive season.
And if there’s one thing we’ve learned from Penny Proud over the years, it’s that even when things go spectacularly wrong, there’s always an adventure waiting on the other side!
