There are some stories that, no matter how many years pass or how much their worlds change, continue finding new ways to capture our imaginations. Stories filled with unforgettable characters, extraordinary adventures and lessons that resonate long after the final episode has ended. And when it comes to animation, few franchises have managed to accomplish this quite like “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”
From Aang’s unforgettable journey to master the four elements and restore balance to the world to Korra’s struggles navigating an entirely different era, the Avatar universe has continued evolving while remaining connected to the themes that made its original story so beloved. But as fans have learned over the years, the end of one Avatar’s journey doesn’t mean the end of the story. After all, the Avatar Cycle continues, and with each generation comes an entirely new collection of adventures.
Now, as audiences are only beginning to discover the next chapter of this remarkable universe, Nickelodeon and Paramount+ have revealed that there’s even more bending on the horizon. “Avatar: Seven Havens” has officially been renewed for two additional seasons at Paramount+, while Nickelodeon has also ordered an entirely new animated series, “Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos.” And for fans of the franchise, that’s quite the announcement to receive just as a new era of Avatar storytelling begins.
The exciting news was revealed during the “Avatar: Seven Havens” panel at New York Comic Con on October 9, coinciding with the highly anticipated premiere of the series’ first three episodes on Paramount+. The renewal confirms that the story of Avatar Pavi and her twin sister Nisha will continue through Books 3 and 4, giving audiences even more opportunities to explore a world that is dramatically different from the one established in the franchise’s previous series.
Set after the events of “The Legend of Korra,” the new animated series follows Pavi, a young Earthbender who discovers that she has inherited the responsibilities of the Avatar following Korra. However, unlike the world Aang and Korra once knew, Pavi’s reality has been devastated by a catastrophic event that has fundamentally changed how society views the Avatar. Rather than being welcomed as someone capable of restoring balance, the new Avatar finds herself in a world where that very title has become something to fear.
And that’s a rather extraordinary change for a franchise whose central character has traditionally been regarded as a bridge between different peoples, nations and the spirit world. For Pavi, discovering her identity is only the beginning of a much larger challenge, as learning to become the Avatar is difficult enough without having to navigate a world that believes you’re responsible for its destruction. Add in the mysteries surrounding the Seven Havens, the dangers lurking throughout this transformed world and the relationship between Pavi and her twin sister Nisha, and there’s certainly no shortage of storytelling possibilities.
With two additional books now confirmed, the creative team will have even more opportunities to explore those ideas. And considering the franchise’s history of developing complex characters and expansive storylines across multiple seasons, it’s exciting to know that Pavi’s journey has room to continue beyond its initial chapters.
The announcement was made during a New York Comic Con panel featuring “Avatar: The Last Airbender” co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, who were joined by fellow executive producer Ethan Spaulding and co-executive producer Sehaj Sethi. The panel also welcomed several members of the show’s voice cast, including Saheli Khan, who voices Pavi, Aishu Devan as Nisha and Major Curda as Jae. In a particularly fitting connection to the franchise’s history, the discussion was moderated by Janet Varney, the original voice of Korra.
For longtime fans, seeing individuals connected to different generations of Avatar storytelling come together to celebrate the franchise’s newest chapter is certainly something special. The presentation also offered audiences a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of “Avatar: Seven Havens,” including a script-to-screen comparison showcasing how the series’ storytelling develops into its finished animated form.
And considering the visual direction of the new series, there’s plenty to appreciate about the work going into bringing this world to life. With animation involving La Chouette Compagnie, the studio behind “Dragon Striker,” the series introduces a striking visual approach to a world that is both familiar and dramatically different from the one fans have spent years exploring. From its environments to its action sequences, the series has an opportunity to reflect the enormous changes that have taken place since Korra’s era.
“Avatar: Seven Havens” premiered on Paramount+ on October 9, 2026, with its first three episodes. The remaining episodes of Book 1 will arrive throughout October, with episodes four through six scheduled for October 16, episodes seven through nine arriving October 23 and the final four episodes, ten through thirteen, premiering October 30. Additional details about Books 2, 3 and 4 have yet to be announced, but with the first book now underway, audiences are finally getting their opportunity to discover what this new era holds.
Of course, while Pavi’s journey is only beginning, there’s another Avatar preparing to take audiences on an entirely different kind of adventure. And this time, we’re traveling into the past as Nickelodeon has officially ordered “Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos,” a new animated series centered on the legendary Avatar Kuruk.
From the sound of things, this isn’t going to be an ordinary Avatar adventure. The upcoming series follows a rebellious teenage Kuruk who isn’t particularly interested in following the traditions that have guided generations of Avatars before him. Instead of approaching his training through the familiar methods established over thousands of years, Kuruk decides to learn the four elements through a series of adventures around the world, much to the frustration of those attempting to guide him.
Naturally, that decision is going to lead to some rather interesting complications. Between staying one step ahead of his frustrated teacher, encountering rowdy pirates and dealing with chaotic spirits, the young Avatar will have plenty of challenges waiting for him, all while attempting to help the world in his own unconventional way. And honestly, the idea of a teenage Avatar setting off on a globe-trotting adventure while trying to avoid his increasingly irritated teacher sounds like it could lead to some wonderfully entertaining situations.
It’s also a premise that opens the door to a different kind of Avatar storytelling, particularly when compared to the darker circumstances surrounding Pavi’s journey in “Seven Havens.” Where one series explores the responsibilities of becoming the Avatar in a world that has seemingly lost faith in the title, the other will follow a young Avatar who is determined to approach those responsibilities on his own terms.
That contrast is particularly interesting when considering one of the most compelling aspects of the franchise: the way each Avatar brings their own personality, experiences and understanding of the world into the role. Aang, Korra and now Pavi have each faced circumstances that reflect the challenges of their respective eras, and with Kuruk stepping into the spotlight, audiences will have an opportunity to explore another chapter of the Avatar Cycle through the eyes of someone whose approach to the role is anything but conventional.
The new series is being produced by Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios, with franchise co-creator Bryan Konietzko serving as showrunner. Additional details, including the voice cast and premiere date, have not yet been announced, but the premise already offers an intriguing glimpse at the kind of adventure audiences can expect.
There’s something rather exciting about seeing the Avatar universe continue expanding in different directions, especially when the franchise has demonstrated that its world is large enough to support stories spanning different generations, cultures and eras. While each Avatar inherits the same extraordinary responsibility, their journeys are shaped by the unique challenges they encounter along the way.
Sometimes that means restoring balance after a devastating war. Other times, it means navigating a changing society and questioning what the Avatar’s role should look like in a modern world. And occasionally, it might involve a rebellious teenager traveling around the world, avoiding an irritated teacher and finding himself caught between pirates and unpredictable spirits. Because apparently, even the Avatar isn’t immune to the complications of being a teenager.
With “Avatar: Seven Havens” now confirmed to continue through four books and “Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos” officially joining the franchise’s expanding animated lineup, there’s certainly plenty for fans to look forward to. Perhaps the most exciting part is that these stories are exploring different sides of a universe that still has so much history left to uncover, from the mysterious future awaiting Pavi and Nisha to the adventures of a young Kuruk.
“Avatar: Seven Havens” Book 1 is now streaming on Paramount+, with new episodes arriving throughout October 2026. More information about its upcoming books and the newly announced “Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos” will be revealed at a later date.
For longtime fans, it’s another opportunity to return to a world that has remained an important part of animation for more than two decades. And for younger audiences discovering the franchise for the first time, it’s the beginning of an entirely new collection of adventures.
Because while the world may change, nations may rise and fall, and generations of Avatars may come and go, one thing remains certain: the Avatar Cycle never truly ends.
And neither, it seems, do the stories waiting to be told.
