October brings about its own unique charm in the air. Something many would refer to with none other than one simple, yet complicated word — magic.
Magic has always been a cornerstone of stories around spooky season. With often dark, gothic stylings and color palettes, tales of witches and the supernatural linger until the quickly darkening blanket of nightfall. October almost feels intentionally made to be the perfect prelude for these stories and characters.
Including the newest spellbinding students from the world of Monster High.
Monsters. Witches. They both go rather well hand in hand when it comes to the haunting hour. It almost makes you wonder why it took Mattel this long to dive deeper into witches, given both the longevity and popularity of Monster High. But now that time has arrived.
Following the news revealed back at this year’s Toy Fair, the long-awaited new toy range that acts as a sister series to the flagship doll line has arrived at retailers, allowing fans to bring some of the magic of the larger Monster High universe home.
And now, after much anticipation, we are finally seeing corresponding content surrounding this new series on YouTube.
With three new quiz-based videos, audiences can discover their own magic and flair alongside this new friend group, allowing for even more bonding between fans and their new dolls.
But what is a doll without her story?
It is far from a secret that Mattel has long understood the correlation between toy and story through its various forms of consumable content. Such is the case here, as we now have two new music videos, each serving as an introduction to two members of this coven — Carina and Claire.
While this isn’t quite the same path Mattel has taken when introducing new lines, or even returning existing ones to new and old fans, it does show how critical becoming digital-first and meeting your audience where they are has become today. Kids and teens had already started migrating to YouTube when Monster High first came out, and today it remains one of the premier places younger fans go for content.
But other factors have also changed, leading us to wonder if Mattel will return more to its roots with actual webisodes and overarching stories, as it once did with other series.
Or will Moonspell Magic enchant audiences through short-form content alone?
Today, it is still too early to tell for sure.
But it likely won’t be too much longer before we discover just how powerful a spell these witches can cast.
