Disney Villains Are Taking Over McDonald’s! New Halloween Boo Buckets Arrive as Disney’s Villain Era Continues!

Disney Villains Are Taking Over McDonald’s! New Halloween Boo Buckets Arrive as Disney’s Villain Era Continues!

There is something rather fascinating about the villains who have helped shape some of Disney’s most beloved stories. While the heroes are often celebrated for their courage, kindness and determination, it’s frequently the villains who leave some of the most unforgettable impressions. From their theatrical personalities and elaborate schemes to their iconic appearances and memorable musical numbers, these characters have become just as recognizable as the heroes whose stories they inhabit.

And over the years, we’ve watched as Disney’s legendary collection of villains has continued to evolve beyond their original animated appearances, becoming the inspiration for new stories, merchandise, entertainment experiences and even entire franchises.

Perhaps one of the greatest examples of this is Disney’s Descendants, which introduced audiences to an entirely new generation of characters connected to some of the studio’s most notorious villains. Through its imaginative reworking of familiar fairy-tale legacies, the franchise has helped bring renewed attention to the darker, more mischievous side of Disney storytelling, establishing its own identity while celebrating the characters who inspired it.

And with Disney preparing to introduce an entire land dedicated to its villains at Walt Disney World, it’s becoming increasingly clear that these legendary antagonists are enjoying quite the moment in the spotlight.

Now, it looks like they’re preparing to take over another familiar part of childhood, just in time for Halloween!

McDonald’s has officially announced the return of its beloved Halloween Boo Buckets, and this year, the iconic collectible pails are receiving a rather wicked Disney makeover.

Beginning October 20, 2026, participating McDonald’s restaurants will introduce five limited-edition Disney Villains Boo Buckets, featuring some of the most recognizable antagonists in the studio’s animated history.

And considering the characters selected for this year’s collection, there’s certainly no shortage of villainous personality!

The lineup includes Jafar from Aladdin, who takes center stage on a red bucket; Ursula from The Little Mermaid, featured on a purple design; Scar from The Lion King, appearing on an orange bucket; and Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians, whose unmistakable appearance inspires a white bucket. Rounding out the collection is Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, who brings her signature sinister elegance to a green bucket.

Each collectible will also include a villain-inspired lid and stickers, giving children an opportunity to personalize their buckets while celebrating the characters featured throughout the collection.

As with previous Halloween Boo Bucket promotions, the special pails will be available in place of the traditional Happy Meal boxes for a limited time.

But while the return of these nostalgic collectibles is certainly exciting on its own, the decision to center this year’s collection around Disney Villains feels particularly fitting when considering the direction Disney has been taking with these characters.

For years, the villains of Disney’s animated classics have remained enormously popular through merchandise, seasonal celebrations and appearances throughout the company’s theme parks. However, more recent developments have demonstrated how these characters are becoming an increasingly important part of Disney’s larger entertainment landscape.

The continued success of the Descendants franchise is perhaps one of the clearest examples of that evolution. Rather than simply revisiting the stories audiences already know, the franchise has expanded the mythology surrounding Disney’s most notorious characters, introducing new generations to their legacies through music, fantasy and stories centered around identity, family and the choices that shape who we become.

And while the Descendants universe offers its own interpretation of these familiar figures, its popularity reflects the enduring fascination audiences have with the villains themselves.

Then there’s the highly anticipated Disney Villains Land currently in development for Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort.

The upcoming themed land represents a particularly significant moment for these characters, promising to give Disney’s iconic antagonists a dedicated space within one of the company’s most recognizable theme parks. With plans for new attractions, dining and shopping experiences inspired by the villains, the project is preparing to bring their fantastical worlds to life on a scale unlike anything Disney has previously created for them.

It’s an ambitious direction that speaks to just how much these characters have grown beyond their original roles as the adversaries of Disney’s heroes.

And when you place the continued popularity of Descendants, the development of Villains Land and this newest McDonald’s collaboration alongside one another, a rather interesting picture begins to emerge.

Disney’s villains are no longer simply characters who appear when the story needs someone to challenge the hero. They’ve become an entertainment identity of their own, with a growing presence across storytelling, merchandise and immersive experiences.

Of course, the McDonald’s Boo Buckets also carry a nostalgic history that makes this particular collaboration especially charming.

First introduced in 1986, the Halloween-themed Happy Meal pails became a memorable part of the season for generations of children. Whether they were used to collect candy, store small toys or simply decorate a bedroom during October, the colorful buckets developed a following that has continued long after their original introduction.

And now, as the tradition celebrates its 40th anniversary, the Disney Villains collection offers a delightful combination of nostalgia and contemporary Disney entertainment.

For longtime Disney fans, the designs celebrate some of the studio’s most memorable characters, while younger audiences who have discovered these villains through newer stories and merchandise can enjoy a collectible that has been part of Halloween traditions for decades.

The Disney Villains Boo Buckets will be available at participating McDonald’s locations beginning Tuesday, October 20, for a limited time, with five different designs to collect.

And with Disney’s villains continuing to make their presence known through Descendants, the upcoming Villains Land and an expanding assortment of merchandise and experiences, this latest collaboration feels like another fitting chapter in their ongoing rise to prominence.

After spending decades trying to steal the spotlight from Disney’s heroes, it seems the villains are finally getting plenty of attention all their own.

And this Halloween, they’re taking that spotlight straight to the Happy Meal!
