From Sonic the Hedgehog to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, we’ve seen some of the biggest names in gaming make their way to the big screen, bringing the characters and worlds that fans have spent countless hours exploring into an entirely new medium. And with video game adaptations continuing to find success in Hollywood, another beloved gaming franchise is preparing to join the growing lineup!
This time, we’re heading into the colorful and wonderfully imaginative world of CookieRun!
Big Shot Pictures, the family entertainment company founded by former Nickelodeon and Paramount executive Brian Robbins, has officially partnered with South Korean video game developer Devsisters to bring the popular CookieRun franchise to the big screen.
Under the newly announced agreement, Big Shot Pictures has optioned the film rights to the franchise and will oversee production of a feature-length adaptation, with Devsisters working closely alongside the studio to help shape the creative direction of the project.
And while the film is still in its early stages of development, the companies are already looking toward a particularly meaningful release window.
The upcoming CookieRun movie is targeting a global theatrical release in 2029, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of OvenBreak, the original game that introduced players to the franchise.
Since its debut, CookieRun has grown into a global entertainment phenomenon, attracting more than 300 million players and generating over $1 billion in lifetime revenue. The franchise has continued to expand through games such as CookieRun: Kingdom, which became one of YouTube’s top trending topics in the United States in 2025, alongside merchandise, trading cards and fan experiences.
And considering the imaginative characters, colorful environments and adventurous storytelling that have helped define the franchise, there’s certainly plenty of material for a feature-length adaptation to explore.
The project also brings together a rather interesting creative partnership, particularly with Robbins’ previous experience overseeing major entertainment properties during his time at Paramount, including the successful Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise.
While additional details surrounding the film’s story, animation style and characters have yet to be revealed, the announcement marks another significant step in CookieRun‘s evolution from a popular mobile gaming franchise into a broader entertainment property.
And with its 20th anniversary on the horizon, it looks like the world of CookieRun is preparing to celebrate with its biggest adventure yet!
