There is no question that Japanese pop culture has become an increasingly influential part of the global entertainment landscape. From anime and manga to beloved character franchises, we’re seeing more and more Japanese entertainment properties finding their way into mainstream collaborations with some of the most recognizable brands in the world. And perhaps one of the most interesting places we’re seeing this growing influence is within the fast-food industry, where collectible toys have become an exciting way to bring these characters to audiences of all ages.

Now, it looks like Burger King is preparing to embrace the kawaii phenomenon with a little help from one of Japan’s most recognizable characters!

After weeks of speculation, Burger King has officially teased an upcoming collaboration featuring none other than Hello Kitty, confirming that something rather adorable is arriving at participating restaurants on October 20, 2026.

The announcement came through the fast-food chain’s official Instagram account on October 16, where the familiar Burger King logo appeared adorned with Hello Kitty’s iconic red bow. And while the teaser didn’t reveal the complete collection, it has certainly added to the excitement surrounding the rumored assortment of Sanrio collectibles.

According to images circulating online, the upcoming promotion could feature six different figures, including Hello Kitty, a special gold version of the character, Kuromi, My Melody, Cinnamoroll and Keroppi. Several of the reported designs incorporate Burger King-inspired details, with Hello Kitty wearing a crown and holding a hamburger, while Cinnamoroll and Keroppi are shown with miniature fast-food accessories.

The figures are also rumored to arrive in blind-box packaging, adding a little mystery to the collecting experience. However, Burger King and Sanrio have yet to officially confirm the individual designs, packaging or complete lineup, with additional information expected closer to the promotion’s launch.

And what makes this particular collaboration especially interesting is that it arrives just months after McDonald’s introduced its own Hello Kitty and Friends crossover with Godzilla in August.

Seeing two major fast-food chains embrace Japanese entertainment properties within such a short period reflects the growing mainstream appeal of these characters, particularly as Sanrio continues to attract audiences spanning multiple generations. For younger fans, the toys offer a colorful introduction to familiar characters, while longtime enthusiasts have another opportunity to celebrate their favorites through collectible merchandise.

It’s also another example of how the traditional children’s meal toy has evolved into something that can appeal just as much to adult collectors as it does to younger audiences.

Burger King’s Hello Kitty collaboration is scheduled to begin October 20, with further details about the official lineup and availability still to be announced.

And with Japanese pop culture continuing to make its presence known across entertainment, merchandise and now fast-food collaborations, it looks like the kawaii takeover is showing no signs of slowing down!
