Zeus Needs to Calm Down in New Greek Mythology Comedy “Chill Out, Zeus!”

For thousands of years, stories of the Greek gods have been passed from one generation to another. They have inspired literature, art, movies, television series and countless retellings as audiences continue returning to Mount Olympus.

But sometimes even the ruler of the gods just needs to chill out.

Studio 100 International has acquired worldwide distribution rights to “Chill Out, Zeus!,” a new animated comedy-adventure series putting a decidedly modern family spin on some very ancient characters. Produced by Germany’s die film gmbh in co-production with ARD / HR and Spain’s COZ AIE, the 52 x 12-minute series will make its way to MIPCOM 2026 as Studio 100 introduces it to international buyers.

Aimed at kids ages 6-12, “Chill Out, Zeus!” draws inspiration from Frank Schwieger’s children’s book “I, Zeus & the Olympic Gang” and reimagines Greek mythology through the rather chaotic home life of Zeus and his divine family.

Being the supreme ruler of Earth and Olympus sounds impressive, but apparently it can also be exhausting. Zeus has gods to oversee, a world to rule and a family to manage, and while he would probably never admit that any of it is too much for him, his mood swings tend to say otherwise. It doesn’t even take a legendary monster or an epic battle to push him over the edge. A bad dream, a common cold or even accidentally taking a stray thunderbolt to the foot can be enough to put Zeus in a terrible mood.

Unfortunately, when your father happens to be one of the most powerful gods in existence, his bad day can quickly become everyone’s problem.

That leaves Zeus’ teenage children Aphrodite, Athena, Heracles and Hermes with the rather unenviable task of restoring balance whenever their father’s mood throws Olympus—and potentially everything below it—into chaos. Their attempts to fix things will send the young gods into larger adventures, bringing familiar figures and ideas from Greek mythology into stories built around comedy, action and family dynamics.

It is a playful way to approach mythology that has been retold for centuries. Greek myths can be filled with enormous battles, monsters, heroes, betrayals and plenty of complicated family trees, but the gods themselves have always been remarkably emotional figures. They get jealous. They argue. They make impulsive decisions. They absolutely do not always get along.

“Chill Out, Zeus!” appears ready to lean directly into that messiness and translate it into something immediately recognizable for younger viewers: family life.

Suddenly Olympus isn’t only the distant home of legendary gods children might encounter in a book or classroom. It is also a household where Dad woke up on the wrong side of the bed and now his teenage children have to figure out how to stop his bad mood from becoming an international—or perhaps divine—incident.

That humor also gives the series an accessible doorway into characters and stories that have shaped storytelling for generations. Studio 100 International Head of Global Distribution Dorian Bühr describes the series as combining the mythology’s iconic figures with humor, heart and relatable family dynamics, while introducing young audiences to the gods and heroes of Ancient Greece through contemporary storytelling.

There is certainly no shortage of material to work with. Greek mythology has endured through countless interpretations precisely because every generation seems to find another way into these ancient stories.

This time, apparently, we’re starting with a very important lesson.
