The U.K. Is Getting Ready for Harry Potter’s 25th Birthday—And Now There Is Cake

The invitations are going out, the decorations are appearing and across the U.K., preparations are already underway for a pretty big Wizarding World birthday.

And now, yes, there is officially cake too.

As 2026 marks 25 years since “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” first brought Hogwarts to movie theaters, Finsbury Food Group is joining the growing celebration with a new “Harry Potter”-inspired cake created in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products.

Because really, what is a 25th birthday without cake?

Available through Tesco in the U.K., the 1kg chocolate cake serves up to 16 people and leans heavily into the familiar colors and iconography of Hogwarts. Chocolate sponge and chocolate frosting are covered in burgundy icing with gold accents inspired by Gryffindor, while the top is decorated with chocolate versions of the Golden Snitch and Sorting Hat alongside a Hogwarts crest finished with gold lustre detailing.

While certainly arriving at the right time for the anniversary, this isn’t going to be a one-and-done birthday treat either. Finsbury says the cake will become a permanent addition to Tesco’s celebration cake range, positioning it for everything from birthdays to other special occasions long after the 25th-anniversary candles have been blown out.

The timing, however, makes its arrival particularly fun.

The U.K. is heading toward a major celebration of its own homegrown Wizarding World in 2026, as the first “Harry Potter” movie reaches the quarter-century mark. For the generation that first met Harry, Ron and Hermione on the big screen in 2001, that means a rather startling reminder that enough time has now passed for the movies themselves to become nostalgic childhood favorites. At the same time, younger viewers continue discovering Hogwarts for themselves.

That combination of generations is something Finsbury is leaning into with the new cake, designed to appeal both to longtime fans who grew up alongside the films and kids encountering the Wizarding World for the first time.

And there is something rather fitting about celebrating “Harry Potter” with a birthday cake. Birthdays have played a surprisingly important role in Harry’s own story, from learning he was a wizard on his eleventh birthday to the rather memorable cake Hagrid brought along for the occasion.

Thankfully, this one has survived the journey to Tesco in considerably better condition.

So, as the U.K. prepares to celebrate 25 years since Hogwarts first appeared on the big screen, there is now one more thing to add to the party table.

Just remember: someone needs to bring the candles.
