Being transformed into a strange hybrid creature while trying to save your city sounds like enough of a problem for one group of superheroes.
But why contain all that chaos to one screen?
“The Kwaaks!” is already preparing to expand its colorful superhero world beyond animation, as Wyncor and OuiDo! Productions partner with CrazyLabs on a new mobile game based on the upcoming action-comedy property. The game is currently planned for a worldwide launch across iOS and Android sometime in 2027.
And if you haven’t met the Kwaaks just yet, don’t worry. Their adventures are only getting started.
Set in Sunny City, “The Kwaaks!” follows five superheroes whose battle against a tech villain takes a rather unexpected turn when they are transformed into hybrid creatures. Suddenly left with some unusual new forms, the heroes must figure out how to control what they have become while continuing to protect their home.
The property is simultaneously being developed as a 52-episode CG-animated series, with each 11-minute adventure combining action and comedy for family audiences. Wyncor and OuiDo! own the IP and are positioning “The Kwaaks!” as something larger from the beginning, building a franchise intended to span animation, gaming and other entertainment.
That makes the CrazyLabs partnership particularly interesting. Instead of treating a game as something that comes after a successful series, the mobile experience is being developed as one of the early pieces of the larger “Kwaaks!” world.
CrazyLabs will develop and publish the game, which will carry over the property’s combination of action, comedy and character transformations. Exactly how those transformations will factor into gameplay hasn’t been detailed yet, but with five superheroes suddenly learning to navigate entirely new forms, there is certainly plenty of room to play with the idea.
For kids, it also creates another entry point into Sunny City. Some may discover the characters through the animated series, while others could encounter them first through the game before following their adventures onto the screen. That kind of crossover has become increasingly important as new kids’ properties compete for attention across far more than traditional television.
And “The Kwaaks!” is being built with that larger world in mind.
There is still quite a bit we don’t know about these unusual heroes, from when the animated series will make its debut to exactly what players will be doing when the mobile game arrives. More details will undoubtedly emerge as the property moves closer to launch.
For now, however, Sunny City’s newest superheroes already have more than one adventure waiting for them.
After all, when you’ve been transformed into a hybrid creature and still have a city to save, you might as well make a game out of it.
