The “Hotel Transylvania” Monsters Are Checking Back Into Toy Aisles for 2027

You can check out of Hotel Transylvania, but apparently you can never really leave.

It has been several years since families last checked in with Drac, Mavis and the rest of their rather unusual monster family. Yet the doors to the famous monster resort are getting ready to swing open again with “The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania,” and this time the franchise is planning a return to theaters alongside a new trip into toy aisles.

Funrise has been named the global master toy partner for Sony Pictures Animation and Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming animated movie, with a worldwide toy collection planned to begin arriving in fall 2027 ahead of the film’s October 8 theatrical release.

The line will bring characters and locations from “The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania” into dolls, mini plush, collectibles and playsets. Rather than simply revisiting familiar designs from previous movies, Funrise says the collection will take inspiration from settings and story moments featured in the new film, potentially giving kids another way to continue the mystery once they leave the theater.

And there certainly seems to be a mystery brewing at the hotel.

“The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania” finds Dracula finally settling into retirement as Mavis takes over running the monster resort. Unfortunately, retirement doesn’t necessarily mean things are about to become peaceful. Strange and unexplained happenings begin occurring around the hotel, leaving the Drac Pack to uncover exactly what—or perhaps who—is behind the haunting.

Considering this is a hotel specifically built for monsters, something managing to haunt the place feels almost impressive.

The Funrise partnership also marks another piece falling into place for the next era of “Hotel Transylvania.” Sony Pictures Animation first opened the doors to the hotel in 2012, introducing audiences to Dracula, his daughter Mavis and a world where monsters weren’t necessarily the creatures families needed to fear. Instead, humans were often the ones Drac was worried about.

The first movie earned $355 million worldwide and quickly grew into a larger franchise. “Hotel Transylvania 2” followed before “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” took the monster family away from their hotel for a rather eventful cruise. The fourth installment, “Hotel Transylvania: Transformania,” eventually arrived exclusively on Prime Video in 2022.

“The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania” consequently represents a notable return for the series. Not only are Drac and the gang getting another feature-length adventure, but the new installment is presently set to bring the franchise back to theaters after its previous movie shifted to streaming.

Now, a global toy program is being built around that comeback as well.

For a franchise filled with distinctive characters, creatures and locations, there is certainly plenty for Funrise to work with. Playsets inspired by the hotel feel particularly natural for a series whose central location has always been as important as many of its monsters, while dolls, plush and collectibles give both younger fans and longtime viewers different ways to bring the Drac Pack home.

Exactly which characters, locations and movie moments will make their way into the collection remains under wraps for now. Funrise says additional product and retail details will be announced closer to the 2027 launch.

Until then, Dracula may be enjoying retirement and Mavis may officially be running the place, but Hotel Transylvania clearly isn’t closing its doors anytime soon.

In fact, between a new theatrical mystery and an entire toy line on the way, 2027 is beginning to look like a pretty good year to make another reservation.

Just don’t blame us if your hotel room turns out to be haunted.
