NASCAR Races Into Character-Driven Play With New “SPEEDSTARS” Toy Line

NASCAR Races Into Character-Driven Play With New “SPEEDSTARS” Toy Line

For many kids, there is something instantly exciting about a toy car.

Give it a little push, find the longest stretch of floor in the house and suddenly an ordinary hallway has become the biggest race of the year. Now NASCAR and Far Out Toys are looking to bring a little more personality to those races with a new collection created specifically with younger fans in mind.

Meet the “NASCAR SPEEDSTARS.”

The new character-driven collection of pullback vehicles officially made its debut on August 29 at Daytona International Speedway during the Coke Zero Sugar 400 NASCAR Cup Series race weekend. Rather than simply recreating existing NASCAR vehicles in miniature, “SPEEDSTARS” introduces a cast of original racing characters designed for kids to race, collect and get to know.

Four racers are leading the starting lineup.

Jaw Dash #57 is described as the fierce leader of the group, while DOJO Master #49 brings a little zen-like precision to the track. Air Speed #91 is all about lightning-fast racing, and Hair Raisin #35 rounds things out as the team’s wild speed demon.

Each vehicle also features a pullback motor, keeping the actual play pattern wonderfully simple. Pull them back, let them go and see which SPEEDSTAR reaches the finish line first.

Yet it is the decision to give each car its own identity that makes the collection particularly interesting.

NASCAR is one of the most recognizable names in American motorsports, but “SPEEDSTARS” isn’t asking younger kids to already know the drivers, teams, tracks or history behind the sport before they start playing. Instead, the characters become an entry point into racing itself.

Kids can have a favorite because they like Jaw Dash’s personality or think Air Speed looks cool. From there, that interest can potentially grow into curiosity about the real racing world that inspired them.

It is an approach that feels increasingly important as long-running sports and entertainment brands look for ways to introduce themselves to new generations. Sometimes that means recreating exactly what adults already know and love. Other times, it means taking the heart of that experience and reshaping it into something designed specifically for kids.

For NASCAR, that heart is pretty easy to find: colorful cars, big personalities, competition and, naturally, a whole lot of speed.

The toys fittingly got their first laps in at Daytona’s NASCAR KidZone – Family Fun area, where kids and families were able to race and play with the collection during the event. After making their debut alongside the real-world racing action, “NASCAR SPEEDSTARS” will make their way to Walmart this fall.

After all, every future racing fan has to start somewhere.

Sometimes that starting line is simply the living room floor.
