Mondays Just Got Worse as “Garfield – Escape from Monday” Is Out Now

There are a great many things Garfield would rather not deal with.

Getting out of bed. Exercise. Diets. Nermal. And, of course, the single day of the week that has earned his eternal hatred: Monday.

Unfortunately for our favorite lasagna-loving cat, Monday has finally decided to fight back.

After previously getting a look at Microids and OSome Studio’s upcoming “Garfield – Escape from Monday,” the wait is officially over. Garfield’s latest video game adventure is available now on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, throwing players straight into a nightmare filled with challenges, enemies and some truly horrifying sights.

You know. Vegetables.

The adventure begins when Garfield finds himself trapped in a nightmare containing vegetables, sugar-free candies and other things that no self-respecting orange cat should ever be forced to endure. If he wants to wake up and, more importantly, get his taste buds working again, Garfield has to make his way through the strange world inside his dreams.

Thankfully, this is still Garfield we’re talking about, so there is plenty of lasagna waiting along the way.

“Garfield – Escape from Monday” sends players across three different worlds and 40 levels, mixing platforming, enemies, challenges and collectibles into Garfield’s increasingly chaotic attempt to escape his nightmare. Players can also collect items used to help refurbish Jon’s house, giving Garfield something productive to do between meals.

He isn’t completely alone, either.

Jon, Odie, Arlene and Pookie are along for the adventure, while Nermal and Squeak are among the familiar faces causing trouble. Garfield also has a few rather unusual tricks hiding beneath all that orange fur thanks to three special costumes that each give him a different ability.

And yes, one of them turns Garfield into a turkey.

The turkey costume allows him to take to the air, while his surfer look lets him slide across water. Dressing Garfield as a cowboy gives him access to a lasso, providing different ways to move through the game’s levels and overcome whatever his nightmare decides to throw at him next.

It is exactly the kind of strange collection of ideas that somehow makes complete sense once Garfield is involved.

The new release also gives longtime fans another way to spend time with the famously lazy cat while introducing younger players to Garfield, his friends and his very specific priorities through an interactive adventure. And if you’re going to make Garfield run, jump, fight bosses and explore 40 levels, trapping him inside a nightmare might be one of the few believable ways to convince him to do it.

After all, there is lasagna at stake.

Now somebody please get that cat out of there before he sees another vegetable.
