Disney’s Live-Action “Moana” Is Sailing Home This September

It might be time to see how far you’ll go once again.

After sailing into theaters this summer, Disney’s live-action “Moana” is already preparing for its next adventure as the hit film makes its way into homes.

Fans will be able to purchase or rent “Moana” digitally beginning September 8, with the film arriving on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD a little less than a month later on October 6.

That means whether you missed the latest voyage to Motunui in theaters or simply aren’t quite ready to say goodbye to Moana, Maui and the ocean, another chance to experience the adventure is almost here.

Released in theaters on July 10, the live-action adaptation brought Disney’s beloved 2016 animated film into a new medium under the direction of “Hamilton” filmmaker Thomas Kail. Newcomer Catherine Lagaʻaia stepped into the title role of Moana, while Dwayne Johnson made the jump from animation to live action to once again portray Maui.

The cast also includes Rena Owen as Gramma Tala, John Tui as Chief Tui and Frankie Adams as Sina.

While there has naturally been plenty of conversation surrounding Disney’s continued live-action reimaginings, “Moana” remains a particularly interesting addition simply because the original animated adventure is still such a relatively recent part of Disney history.

For plenty of younger viewers, Moana isn’t necessarily a character their parents grew up with. She is one of their Disney characters.

Now those fans have two different versions of the voyage to experience, with the live-action film soon becoming considerably easier to revisit from the comfort of home.

And really, that is part of the fun of a home media release.

The theatrical experience might be where audiences first discover a movie, but bringing it home is where favorite scenes get replayed, songs inevitably get stuck in everyone’s heads again and family movie nights turn a single trip to the theater into something that can be enjoyed over and over.

Disney’s live-action “Moana” will be available to purchase or rent digitally beginning September 8, followed by its 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD release on October 6.

So get the snacks ready, find somewhere comfortable and prepare to head back across the ocean.

Just don’t be surprised when “You’re Welcome” ends up stuck in your head again.
