Bratz is stepping up once again.
Over the last few years, the iconic fashion doll brand has continued finding new ways to bring its Y2K attitude into the modern collecting world. From returning dolls and collaborations to merchandise pulling directly from the brand’s extensive history, there has been no shortage of ways for longtime fans to rediscover the girls with a passion for fashion.
Now MGA Entertainment is digging into another piece of Bratz history: its music.
MGA’s Miniverse is releasing a special-edition Bratz collection inspired by “Bratz Angelz,” bringing one of the brand’s musical eras into the miniature collecting world with a release that mixes vinyl, fashion and a healthy dose of nostalgia.
At the center of the set is a miniature recreation of the “Bratz Angelz” vinyl record, complete with a matching album cover. Better yet, this isn’t simply a tiny record designed to sit on a shelf.
When paired with the MGA’s Miniverse Real Music Record Player, which is sold separately, the miniature vinyl can actually play a short clip of “Dollz Doll” from the “Bratz Angelz” album.
There is something wonderfully fitting about seeing Bratz become part of the current vinyl resurgence. The brand has always existed at the intersection of fashion, music and pop culture, making a miniature playable Bratz record feel considerably more natural than you might initially expect.
The set doesn’t stop with the music either. Collectors will also find an album sleeve keychain, tote bag, miniature T-shirt and jacket. Both fashion pieces double as keychains, but in a clever touch, they are also designed to fit standard Bratz fashion dolls.
That gives the collection a little more versatility than your typical miniature release. You can display the pieces, use them as accessories or hand the fashion over to your Bratz dolls themselves.
It also feels like another smart extension of what MGA has been doing with Miniverse. The line has grown well beyond tiny recreations of food and everyday products, increasingly finding ways to turn recognizable pieces of entertainment and pop culture into miniature collectibles. Bratz is an especially natural fit for that concept considering just how many recognizable fashion, music and lifestyle moments the brand has accumulated over the years.
More importantly, releases like this show that the current Bratz resurgence isn’t simply about putting old dolls back on shelves. MGA has increasingly found ways to revisit different pieces of the brand’s history while packaging them for the collectors of today.
For fans who grew up during the original Bratz era, seeing “Bratz Angelz” return in miniature form is another little piece of that history brought forward. For newer collectors, it is another chance to discover just how much music, fashion and attitude has always been wrapped up inside the Bratz world.
The MGA’s Miniverse Real Music Bratz Special Edition will be released September 3 at 8:00 a.m. PT through the MGA Shop for $12.99, with limited quantities available.
Turns out the girls with a passion for fashion still have a passion for music too.
