Back to School? More Like Back to Bluey as “Bluey Book Reads” Returns

Backpacks are packed, pencils have been sharpened and kids are settling back into another school year. Yet as we begin to fall into fall, there is another habit families can add back into their routines: a little more reading.

And Bluey and Bingo are ready to help.

“Bluey Book Reads” is returning for its third season, bringing another collection of familiar faces together to read stories featuring everyone’s favorite Blue Heeler family. The digital series launches September 8 through the official “Bluey” YouTube channel and Bluey.tv, with ten new five-minute episodes arriving weekly through November 10.

For families already spending plenty of time with Bluey, there is something particularly fun about using that familiarity as a doorway into reading. Rather than simply watching another adventure unfold, “Bluey Book Reads” brings the series’ stories into a format parents and kids can enjoy together while also encouraging younger viewers to discover the books themselves.

Season 3 begins with actress and author Isla Fisher reading “Bingo,” which finds Bingo learning how to entertain herself while Bluey is away visiting a friend. From there, the season has assembled quite the reading circle, with Toni Collette, Julia Stiles, Ash Barty, DanTDM, Tan France, Wunmi Mosaku, Will Sharpe, Noah Taylor and Sia all taking turns sharing a “Bluey” story.

There are some particularly familiar adventures waiting on the bookshelf as well. Collette will read “Cricket,” while Sia gets behind the wheel for “Granny Mobile.” Other stories include “Bedroom,” “BBQ,” “Pass the Parcel,” “The Doctor,” “The Weekend” and “Hammerbarn,” before Barty closes out the season with “The Decider” on November 10.

It is a rather simple idea, yet one that feels especially fitting for “Bluey.” Reading together can become another form of family play, giving kids an opportunity to revisit stories they recognize while experiencing them in an entirely different way. A favorite episode doesn’t necessarily have to end when the television turns off; it can continue on the page, inspire a conversation or perhaps lead to a child wanting to tell a story of their own.

That also makes the return particularly well timed. With school back in session and families once again finding their rhythm between homework, activities, dinner and bedtime, five minutes with a “Bluey” book is an easy addition to the day. It doesn’t need to become another assignment or something to check off a list. Sometimes reading can simply be fun.

“Bluey Book Reads” has certainly found an audience for that idea. The series first launched in February 2024 with Kylie and Dannii Minogue reading “Mini Bluey,” and has since generated more than 91 million views across Bluey’s digital channels. It has also become part of a larger collection of short-form “Bluey” programming centered around activities families can bring into their own homes, alongside crafting, music, cooking and imaginative play.

That fits nicely alongside the recently launched “Play The Bluey Way” campaign, which encourages families to bring more play into everyday life. Because whether everyone is building something, making dinner, inventing a game or curling up together with a book, some of the best family moments don’t have to be particularly complicated.

So, back to school season?

Maybe it is time to make it back to Bluey season, too. Grab a book, find a comfortable spot and fall into a little reading with Bluey and company.
