Ahoy, Puppies! Netflix Sets Sail With New Preschool Series “Puppy Pirates”

What do you get when you combine four heroic puppies, a pirate ship and a whole lot of things that need to be found?

Apparently, one very adorable crew.

Netflix has greenlit “Puppy Pirates,” a new preschool animated series created by Matthew Fernandez that will send four heroic hounds sailing across the high seas on a rather fitting mission: fetching whatever has been lost.

And when you’re a puppy, “fetching” can cover quite a lot.

From missing treasure to beloved stuffies and who knows what else, the four pups will set sail whenever something needs to be recovered. It is a wonderfully simple concept for a preschool adventure, taking something children already associate with dogs and turning it into the foundation for an entire pirate world.

After all, pirates traditionally spend their adventures searching for treasure. These puppies just happen to be very, very good at retrieving things.

While additional details about the characters, voice cast and premiere have yet to be announced, the premise leaves plenty of room for the crew to encounter new places, problems and friends as each lost item sends them toward another adventure.

And really, sometimes a new preschool series doesn’t need a complicated explanation.

There are puppies.

They’re pirates.

They sail the high seas finding lost treasure and stuffies.

Netflix may want to make sure someone keeps the treats stocked.
