The toys are coming home!
Following another massive trip to the big screen, Disney and Pixar are getting ready to bring Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the rest of the gang into family rooms once again as Toy Story 5 officially makes the jump to home media.
After crossing the $1 billion mark at the global box office, the newest chapter in one of Pixar’s most defining franchises will arrive digitally on August 18, followed by 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD releases on September 22.
And Disney is going pretty big for the toys’ homecoming.
While Toy Story 5 brought the franchise into a very different era of play, placing the toys against the growing role technology has in childhood, its home release is giving fans a much deeper look at how Pixar brought that next evolution of the story together.
In the newest adventure, Woody, Buzz, Jessie and their friends find themselves facing something unlike the previous challenges that have threatened their place in a child’s life.
This time, it’s technology.
When a tablet named Lilypad enters Bonnie’s world with her own ideas about what playtime should look like, the toys are forced to confront what their place might be in a childhood increasingly filled with screens.
Now fans will be able to revisit that adventure while getting quite a bit more from behind the scenes.
Among the included bonus features is “The Toys Are Back in Town,” taking audiences behind the return of Pixar’s iconic characters, alongside “Casting Playtime,” which puts the spotlight on some of the franchise’s newest voices, including Conan O’Brien and Greta Lee.
Fans can also dig into “50 Buzzes and The Great Escape” and “The Lost Toys,” expanding the look at the ideas and work that went into creating this newest chapter.
And, naturally, there are some Pixar outtakes.
The home release includes a recording booth gag reel alongside several deleted scenes introduced by director Andrew Stanton and co-director Kenna Harris. Those scenes include “First Meet,” “Failed Rescue,” “Playtime,” “Goodbye Charlie” and “Reunion.”
Digital audiences are getting a few additional extras of their own.
The digital release will include the official music video and lyric video for Taylor Swift’s “I Knew It, I Knew You,” as well as feature commentary from Harris, production designer Bob Pauley and visual effects supervisor Thomas Jordan.
Collectors aren’t being left behind either.
A limited-edition 4K SteelBook will arrive alongside the physical release on September 22, bringing together franchise favorites Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and Bullseye with some of the newest additions to the Toy Story world, including Lilypad and Smarty Pants.
For fans looking to go even further back, Disney is also using the release to celebrate the larger legacy of the franchise.
A special digital two-movie collection will pair the original Toy Story with Toy Story 5 in 4K Ultra HD, bringing the beginning and latest chapter together. A complete five-film collection will also be available through digital and DVD bundles for those looking to bring the entire adventure home.
Even the music is getting its own physical release, with the Toy Story 5 soundtrack headed to vinyl and CD. The release features Taylor Swift’s “I Knew It, I Knew You” alongside an original score from longtime Toy Story composer Randy Newman.
More than three decades after audiences first met a cowboy named Woody and a very confident Space Ranger, Toy Story remains one of the defining pieces of Pixar’s history.
Now, after another major theatrical outing, the toys are ready for their next adventure.
This time, right back at home.
