Sure, we may be headed into Labor Day weekend and the unofficial end of summer here in America.
But that doesn’t mean the heat isn’t on.
Coming up on two years since its initial debut on Netflix, Rainbow — the company that brings fans Winx Club — is ready to return to the sea with the awaited second season of its newest magical girl entry, Mermaid Magic.
While Mermaid Magic had previously been noted to have an end-of-2026 release window, viewers of the series have had little information to operate off of since news first broke that production was underway for the second season.
Thankfully, there is now a confirmed date: October 19th, currently slated as the season’s Netflix release.
As well as a new trailer for this next entry into the sea-worthy tale.
The new season, now sporting a new title, brings fans of the first season back to Mertropia. With a runtime of just over a minute, the excitement and danger are already mounting around Mermaid Magic 2: Guardians of the Deep.
The title alone raises the stakes for what our mermaid trio is about to face — while the trailer makes it clear plenty has changed since we last saw them.
Last time we saw Merlinda, Sasha and Nerissa, they had ventured into the human world — a place they had previously been barred from entering — as part of their quest to save their kingdom.
There, they made new friends, gained new experiences, leveled up their powers and successfully faced off against Barbarossa, ultimately coming out victorious in their quest to restore their kingdom.
Though largely a win, the end of the first season already established that the mermaids’ adventures — and the dangers surrounding their kingdom — are far from over.
After all, saving their kingdom can’t be as simple as one and done, can it?
Of course not.
Though Merlinda appears to be less restricted by her father this time around, there are still plenty of problems surrounding their home. Something the trailer quickly builds anticipation around.
We aren’t shown exactly what — or who — is now causing these threats. But we do know one thing: there is no way our lead heroine can return home.
So where else can a mermaid turn for help other than her friends?
On the surface, returning to Morton Bay should be a relief, as well as a safe haven from the new dangers surrounding mermaid-kind.
Yet it looks like the security the girls once felt inside their second home isn’t as concrete as it once was.
Not with Tracy keen on discovering their secret — and a phone ready to expose them to the world.
After all, keeping a magical identity secret becomes considerably harder when everyone around you has a camera sitting in their pocket.
That leaves our core team facing dangers both in the sea and on land.
They truly can’t catch a break this time around.
But with their friends by their side, they’re ready to face whatever comes next.
That is, provided Tyler stops trying to trigger his own mermaid — er, merman — transformation!
But we’ll give him a pass for his earnestness.
And the fact that he also happens to share an English voice actor with another truly marvelous hero.
Higher stakes, budding romance and smartphones ready to capture just about anything — the pressure is on for Merlinda as she swims toward danger, her fate and a future for everyone in her life.
They say the most important part is the journey, not the destination. With an uncertain future, lingering threats from the past and a tidal wave of challenges ahead, Merlinda and her friends certainly have one grand journey waiting for them.
And we are more than ready to dive deep in.
