You don’t have to be afraid to put your dreams in action.
It’s one of the most notable lyrics from Nickelodeon’s smash-hit 2010s musical teen series, Victorious. Known for its trademark Nick humor, unforgettable tracks like “Freak the Freak Out,” and for helping launch the careers of several talented performers — including one particularly major pop sensation — Victorious became one of the defining Nickelodeon series of its era.
Yet Victorious never concluded its successful run with formal closure for its characters.
The series remains held in high regard by fans who looked forward not only to the laughs and music, but also to watching its characters pursue their individual dreams of becoming Hollywood’s next generation of talent.
While we know where the actors themselves went after Victorious, what became of Tori, Jade, Cat and the rest of the Hollywood Arts students has largely been left for fans to imagine.
That is, until now.
Thanks to Netflix, fans — new and old alike — are preparing to walk back through the halls of Hollywood Arts.
Appropriately titled Hollywood Arts, the new series will chronicle another batch of young, talented and aspiring students as they develop their crafts while navigating everything that comes with teenage life.
And leading them forward is none other than a Hollywood Arts alumna.
Just probably not the one most fans would have placed at the top of their list.
That’s right: Trina Vega is returning to Hollywood Arts as a teacher.
Fans may recall that, despite her deepest efforts, Trina’s performing abilities often lagged behind those of the rest of the principal Victorious cast. What she certainly didn’t lack, however, was drive.
Trina was determined to move forward — even when practically everyone around her attempted to stop her.
That makes it easy to imagine that the years between the end of Victorious and the beginning of Hollywood Arts haven’t exactly been easy. Her journey toward becoming the star she always dreamed of being was likely an uphill battle filled with more rejection than even Trina Vega could have prepared herself to face.
Granted, she still might not be your first choice when looking for someone to break into song and dance.
But Trina knows how harsh the entertainment industry can be.
And that experience alone could make her surprisingly grounded — and perhaps better equipped than expected — to help guide this new generation.
Of course, her initial reasoning for returning to Hollywood Arts is considerably more self-serving.
With longtime acting teacher — and fan favorite — Erwin Sikowitz retiring, Trina takes his place in hopes of getting closer to students with well-connected parents who might finally help her achieve her big break.
It’s an incredibly Trina Vega motivation.
But it’s also a premise that seems destined to evolve as the series progresses.
Alongside Trina, Hollywood Arts will focus on five students — Emmy, Jen Z, Pepper, Qwest and Oscar — as they follow the path traveled by generations of aspiring performers before them.
Unlike the original Victorious cast, however, these teens are pursuing their dreams in a radically different entertainment landscape.
Tori and her friends attended Hollywood Arts during the earlier years of social media. This generation is growing up in a world dominated by TikTok, influencers, personal brands and the possibility of becoming an overnight viral sensation.
That alone fundamentally changes what trying to become “the next big thing” looks like.
These characters may face the same questions surrounding talent, ambition, friendship and growing up that helped define Victorious, but they’ll be doing so while navigating the universal presence — and pressures — of modern social media.
The official logline for the series reads:
In this all-new series, struggling actress Trina Vega (Daniella Monet) returns to her former high school, Hollywood Arts, as an unqualified substitute teacher, quickly finding herself both clashing with and unexpectedly inspiring a new generation of ambitious and talented students as they learn to find their true path at Hollywood’s most elite performing arts school.
As much as the world surrounding Hollywood Arts has changed, the core heart behind the original story remains surprisingly relevant.
A new generation still has dreams.
They’re still trying to discover who they are.
And they’re still trying to figure out how to turn those dreams into reality.
It just so happens that this time, Trina Vega is the one helping them put those dreams into action.
Needless to say, we’re ready to see what this new generation brings.
Hollywood Arts arrives on Netflix on October 15, with plans for the series to subsequently debut on Nickelodeon and Paramount+.
