Demi Lovato Is Returning as Mitchie Torres in “Camp Rock 3”

This is real. This is her.

With only days left before Disney officially takes fans back to Camp Rock, the studio has revealed one pretty incredible surprise for those who have been with the franchise since the beginning.

Demi Lovato is officially returning as Mitchie Torres in Camp Rock 3.

While Lovato was already involved with the newest Disney Channel Original Movie as an executive producer, Disney has now confirmed that she will also step back in front of the camera for a cameo as the character that helped introduce an entire generation to her nearly two decades ago.

And what a surprise to drop right before we head back to camp.

The original Camp Rock arrived in 2008 and introduced audiences to Mitchie Torres, an aspiring young singer who finally gets the opportunity to attend the music camp of her dreams. Alongside Shane Gray and the members of Connect 3, Mitchie’s story would become one of the defining pieces of the late-2000s Disney Channel era.

Now, as Disney prepares to introduce a new generation of campers, one of the characters who started it all will be there to help bridge those two eras together.

Camp Rock 3 shifts the spotlight toward a new group of young performers after Connect 3 suddenly loses the opening act for its major reunion tour. Looking for the next big talent, Shane, Nate and Jason return to the place where so much of their own story began: Camp Rock.

Naturally, the opportunity to open for Connect 3 quickly turns camp into a competition as Sage, Fletch, Rosie, Desi, Cliff, Callie and Madison battle for their shot at the stage. Along the way, friendships will be challenged, new relationships will form and another generation will discover exactly what Camp Rock can mean for them.

But they won’t be doing it without some familiar faces.

Joe Jonas returns as Shane Gray alongside Nick Jonas as Nate and Kevin Jonas as Jason, while Maria Canals-Barrera is also back as Mitchie’s mother, Connie.

And now we know Mitchie isn’t being left behind either.

Lovato’s appearance gives Camp Rock 3 something particularly special as Disney continues revisiting some of its biggest legacy franchises. Rather than completely separating this new generation from the movies that came before it, the third film is increasingly looking like a continuation of a world fans have been following since 2008.

That’s important for a franchise whose staying power has proven remarkably strong.

Together, Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam have accumulated more than 535 million hours watched across linear television and streaming. The music, performances and endlessly quotable moments surrounding the movies have also continued finding new life online, allowing younger Disney fans to discover a franchise that originally premiered before some of them were even born.

Lovato returning as Mitchie makes that connection between generations even stronger.

The new film will still belong to its new campers, but there is something incredibly fitting about letting the girl whose journey helped begin Camp Rock become part of its next chapter.

Especially when fans weren’t expecting to see her at all.

Alongside the returning cast, Camp Rock 3 stars Liamani Segura as Sage, Malachi Barton as Fletch, Lumi Pollack as Rosie, Sherry Cola as Lark, Hudson Stone as Desi, Casey Trotter as Cliff, Brooklynn Pitts as Callie and Ava Jean as Madison.

Music will once again be a major piece of the experience. The first single, “One Beat Away,” performed by Liamani and the cast, is already available, with the full Camp Rock 3 Original Soundtrack arriving digitally Aug. 14 and on vinyl Sept. 18.

And the music won’t stop with the movie.

Several members of the new cast will join Disney’s Worlds Collide Concert Tour alongside stars from the Descendants and ZOMBIES franchises. The tour returns to North America this fall before expanding into the U.K. and Europe in 2027.

But first, we have a reunion at Camp Rock.

Camp Rock 3 premieres Aug. 13 at 8 p.m. EDT/PDT on Disney Channel before arriving Aug. 14 on Disney+.

And somehow, returning to camp just became a little more complete.
