Zoinks! Scooby-Doo is finally becoming a real dog.

Netflix has released a brand-new teaser for Scooby-Doo: Origins, giving fans their very first look at the franchise’s beloved Great Dane in a way that has never been done before. For the first time in the more than 50-year history of the iconic franchise, Scooby-Doo himself will be portrayed as a real dog.

The newly released footage may be brief, but it delivers a moment longtime fans won’t soon forget. As Scooby explores the woods, he eventually crosses paths with Shaggy Rogers, setting the stage for one of animation’s most beloved friendships. By the teaser’s end, audiences are treated to their first look at the floppy-eared pup sporting his signature teal collar.

And yes, he looks like a very good boy.

Set to premiere in 2027, Scooby-Doo: Origins takes audiences back to where it all began. Before the Mystery Machine, before the masks were pulled off villains and before countless mysteries were solved, there was one summer camp and one strange case that would change everything.

The series follows Shaggy Rogers and Daphne Blake during their final summer at camp when they become entangled in a mystery surrounding a lost Great Dane puppy who may have witnessed a supernatural murder. Along the way, they are joined by Velma Dinkley and Fred Jones as the future members of Mystery Inc. begin the very first adventure that will bring them together.

Leading the cast are Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones, with Paul Walter Hauser also joining the project in an undisclosed role.

For generations, Scooby-Doo has remained one of the most recognizable and enduring franchises in family entertainment. Since first arriving on screens in 1969, Scooby and the gang have entertained audiences through animated series, movies, specials and countless mystery-solving adventures.

What makes Scooby-Doo: Origins particularly intriguing is that it isn’t simply retelling stories fans already know. Instead, the series looks to explore the mystery that started it all while giving audiences a chance to experience these characters from an entirely new perspective.

For many fans, seeing Scooby portrayed as a real dog feels both unexpected and strangely fitting. After all, at the heart of every version of Scooby-Doo has never been the monsters, the mysteries or even the villains hiding behind masks. It’s always been about friendship. And from the very first moment Scooby and Shaggy meet in this teaser, that heart appears to be firmly intact.

More than five decades after Scooby first asked for a Scooby Snack, the world’s favorite mystery-solving Great Dane is preparing to begin his story all over again.

Scooby-Doo: Origins premieres on Netflix in 2027.

Are you ready to solve Mystery Inc.’s very first case?
