We cannot deny there is something uniquely special about the holiday season.
Regardless of what, how or even if you celebrate, there is a distinct sentiment that surrounds the end of the year.
With a greater focus on connecting with others, celebrating relationships and enjoying time with the people who matter most, the season provides a wondrous backdrop for countless stories. From timeless classics such as The Nutcracker and A Christmas Carol to newer festive adventures, there is always something that makes these tales feel even more meaningful during the long, chilly winter nights.
Many holiday movie nights would feel incomplete without at least a little Disney magic.
As one of the world’s most recognizable family entertainment companies, Disney has built an extensive catalog of holiday-themed television specials, episodes and feature films centered around the most wonderful time of the year.
Many of those beloved stories place Disney’s iconic mascot, Mickey Mouse, at the center of the festivities. Whether through Mickey’s Christmas Carol, Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas, Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas or countless other adventures, audiences have watched Mickey navigate humorous, relatable and heartfelt moments during the countdown to the big day.
These stories have allowed generations of viewers to experience the season alongside the world’s most famous mouse, often finding pieces of their own holiday traditions reflected back at them.
Though fans continue to revisit these classics year after year, Disney is preparing to deliver an all-new seasonal adventure with Mickey’s Home Alone.
Coming to Disney Jr. and Disney+ this holiday season, the new full-length Christmas special sees Mickey’s plans for the occasion go a bit off the rails.
In “Mickey’s Home Alone,” Mickey can’t wait to spend Christmas at home. His plans take a turn when Minnie surprises him and the gang with tickets to spend Christmas at a world-famous Ice Palace. In the morning rush to make it out the door, Mickey and Pluto are left behind and home alone. While Mickey and Pluto must protect their home from two feisty villains, a raccoon and a weasel who are after their Christmas dinner, Minnie and the gang desperately try to make their way back home to Mickey.
Produced by Wild Canary in association with Disney Jr., the special is executive produced by Tom Rogers and co-executive produced by Rachel Ruderman, with Shane Prigmore serving as director.
Fans can also look forward to new original songs, including “Ho-Ho-Home for Christmas” and “Favorite Christmas Feeling” by songwriter Keith Harrison Dworkin, along with a new arrangement of the holiday classic “Jingle Bells.” The score is composed by Tony Morales.
While Mickey and his friends have celebrated the season in several recent projects, Mickey’s Home Alone feels a bit like the warm aroma of gingerbread on a December morning.
Nostalgic.
Comforting.
Joyful.
Even if things are going completely awry for Mickey himself.
There is something impactful about experiencing the wonder and childlike whimsy of the holiday season alongside beloved characters. It is a time of year when many of us reflect, reconnect and seek comfort. While that often means revisiting cherished stories from our own childhoods and sharing them with younger generations, there is also something exciting about discovering a new holiday tradition.
In recent years, truly memorable holiday specials have become increasingly rare outside of a handful of exceptions. Seeing Disney return to one of its long-standing family hallmarks feels a bit like opening an advent calendar on December 1 and knowing that something exciting is waiting just ahead.
