American Girl Introduces 2027 Girl of the Year

American Girl Introduces 2027 Girl of the Year

American Girl has started off the year stronger than ever, with the beloved doll brand setting its sights on the upcoming 40th anniversary celebration of the iconic collection.

Over the past few months, American Girl has embraced the very roots that helped define the brand for generations. From introducing refreshed versions of some of their most beloved historical characters to rolling out highly requested rereleases of those same fan favorites, American Girl continues to prove that even as time moves forward, their mission of connecting girls of today with the stories of yesterday remains as strong as ever.

While American Girl has always remained focused on delivering relatable and universal stories from the past, the brand has also consistently found ways to connect with fans through characters rooted in modern everyday life. It is a balance they have successfully maintained since the early 2000s through their long-running Girl of the Year collection, a tradition that has now spanned more than 25 years.

Each year, American Girl introduces a limited-time contemporary character designed to reflect not only current fashion and trends, but also the very real struggles, challenges and experiences young girls face in their everyday lives.

Now, ahead of the summer season, fans are getting their first early details surrounding the Girl of the Year for 2027 — the soccer-loving Daisy Davenport.

While Daisy’s doll and full collection will not officially arrive until later this fall in celebration of the brand’s 40th anniversary, her upcoming book is already available for preorder and offers fans an early glimpse into both her story and the character herself.

Meet Daisy Davenport, our 2027 Girl of the Year™! She’s ready for a great summer full of soccer, best-friend time, and sleepaway camp. Daisy is the star of her soccer team and rarely sits still unless it’s to play guitar. She’s super excited to go to the same summer camp that her mom attended, Camp Gowonagin, and enjoy all the camp activities, from canoeing to the ropes course. Even better, her best friend Callie is going, too!

But when Daisy goes to camp, she finds herself unexpectedly afraid of the dark, missing home, and dealing with problems between her cabinmates. When the camp-wide competition is at risk, can Daisy and her friends rally together and play as a team?

One thing that always deserves praise when it comes to American Girl is not only the diversity found within the Girl of the Year lineup, but also just how deeply relatable these characters continue to be for both younger fans and older audiences alike who have already lived through many of the same universal experiences.

While summer camp may often feel like a staple part of childhood, it is not necessarily something every individual has experienced firsthand. Yet the feelings of homesickness, uncertainty in unfamiliar environments, and the challenges that come with building and maintaining new friendships are experiences that resonate far beyond camp itself. Whether through moving, changing schools, or navigating unfamiliar situations, these emotions remain deeply universal.

And that, in itself, remains the true charm and lasting impact of American Girl — no matter what year the character resides in.
