It sounds like we are getting a new serialized animated series from Disney, The Doomies, and it gives me the Gravity Falls, Amphibia, DuckTales, Gargoyles sort of vibe. It is set as a spooky comedy animated series, where best friends Bobby and Romy open a gate to the underworld and have to keep all of these terrible creatures from coming through and ruining the town, and probably the world at that point. The part of this that sounds the most interesting though is “they get roped into an epic monster mystery” and we love when mystery is used as a term to describe an animated show, especially when it is paired with comedy. We hope for a few things here…One that the story arc itself is allowed to play out in a set number of seasons, we have always felt that shows that already had this arc determined seemed to do the best. Hopefully even the number of seasons is determined, because we will say, the one season of Gravity Falls and then the three seasons of Amphibia meant we got the whole story from beginning to end and that was fabulous. We are still wondering how Secrets of Sulphur Springs would have turned out.
So far, the limited stills that we have seen has us quite happy in the art direction for the show. It has the animated feel that should compliment that spooky, comedy feel that they are going for.
We feel like serialized shows do well on streaming services, so it makes sense for a Disney+ release so that if you miss one it will be right there waiting for you, rather than having to skip around and miss something. Now we don’t have a confirmation on how serialized the show will be, but we hope it follows the same type of story arc as the ones we love above. Right now, The Doomies holds the highest spot on our most anticipated new animated series! Hopefully we get an actual date for The Doomies premiere soon.
