Primos from Disney is going to get the Hit or Miss treatment from BSCKids as all we really have is the informational blurb and a character picture, but that is more than enough for reckless speculation. With Natasha Kline being the creator and having been the director of Big City Greens and South Park, we hadn’t realized that this could be the best resume possible to make a kid friendly funny animated show. The animation style fits our vibe with the older school look with the detailed backgrounds going on as well so that is a plus. Here is the thing that has us most intrigued though, Tater, an eccentric 10-year-old girl with big dreams and, unbeknownst to her, a certain “it factor” that makes her exceptional has us very curious to what this “it factor” will be and will it be magical or mundane. We think either way is going to make for some interesting adventures and with the amount of characters it should be a blast. The story has 12 of Tater’s cousins moving in for the summer and their adventures. Will each season be a new summer, will the summer go over multiple seasons, will the time not really be relevant in terms of the show, these are all questions that must be answered. Also, you all know how we like over arching themes to our shows, will this show be serialized or episodic?
We also have the theme song which gives us a roll call of the characters which includes Tater, Cousin Bud, Nacho, Lita, Tere, Tabi, Tonita, Scooter, Lotlot, Gordita, Nachito, Chacha and Cookita. Stay tuned as we continue to get more information about Primos as it gets closer to release.
There is some casting information as well with Myrna Velasco (Tater Ramirez Humphrey), Melissa Villaseñor as Tater’s younger sister (Nellie Ramirez Humphrey), Michelle Ortiz as Tater’s mom (Bibi Ramirez Humphrey) and Jim Conroy as Tater’s dad (Bud Humphrey). The recurring cast list hass Angélica María as Tater’s grandmother (Buela), Liza Koshy as Tater’s friend (Serena),cousins Becca Q. Co (Lotlot), Cristina Valenzuela (Tere and Toñita), Elizabeth Grullón (Lita), Jonathan Melo (Scooter), Sarah Tubert (Cookita), Natasha Kline (Gordita and ChaCha), Nomi Ruiz (Tabi), Rick Simon (Big Nacho and Cousin Bud) and Ryan Anderson Lopez (Nachito) rounding out the family and friends section.
No date set yet for Primos, but with the amount of information that is coming out and the theme song we don’t expect it to be too long. For us we are calling Primos a Hit and are looking forward to seeing some episodes.
Disney Branded Television has ordered “Primos,” an original animated comedy series created and executive produced by Natasha Kline (director of “Big City Greens,” “South Park”). The story, based on Kline’s childhood experiences with her extended multicultural Mexican American family, introduces Tater, an eccentric 10-year-old girl with big dreams and, unbeknownst to her, a certain “it factor” that makes her exceptional. When her 12 cousins (“primos” in Spanish) move in for the summer, they help her discover just what it is.
