Melanie Brook Talks Disney Channel Under Wraps – Exclusive Interview

Melanie Brook stars as Buzzy, the manager of Ernie’s Erie Emporium Halloween store, in Under Wraps which will premiere on Disney Channel on Friday October 1st and then on Disney+ on Friday, October 8th for the Halloween season. We had the opportunity to speak to Melanie about her role and more.

A recent LA transplant, Brook’s television credits include “Dispatches from Elsewhere,” “Mrs. Fletcher,” “The Knick,” “Modern Love” and several Comedy Central shorts. Born and raised in NY, Melanie became a staple in the off-Broadway and cabaret scene having written, produced, and performed several shows at Feinstein’s/54 Below and Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater. She will next appear in Project Pay Day on Apple TV and star in the the upcoming film “Summertime Dropouts.” In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends, singing and playing the guitar.

BSCKids: Tell us a bit about your role on Under Wraps. How did you get the role?

I play Buzzy. She is a horror fanatic who runs a local halloween shop. So when Marshall, Amy, & Gilbert come across a dead living mummy she is the first person they think of to ask for help! I got the role through several auditions. From the moment I read the script I immediately fell in love with the story & the role of Buzzy. I’m so glad it worked out!

Do you feel like you have anything in common with your character?

Yes for sure. Buzzy is super passionate and nerds out about the things she loves. For Buzzy that is horror. For me that is musical theatre. Big MT nerd over here!!

Did you watch the original film?

Yes! I was a bit young to watch the original when it came out, but when I got the audition I watched it & I loved it.

If you could guest star on any running Disney Channel or Disney+ series, which one would it be and why?

Oh this is hard! During quarantine I watched the entire Marvel universe for the first time with my sister. We were both obsessed with WandaVision. That would be such a cool show to guest star on. But if I could go back in time, I would give my right arm to be anywhere near the set of Lizzie McGuire.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

I’m obsessed with rollercoasters. I have traveled near and far to theme parks around the country to ride the best ones! I recently moved to LA and now live within an hour to Six Flags Magic Mountain, so yes dreams DO come true.

Why should everyone tune in to watch Under Wraps?

Under Wraps is incredibly heartwarming, funny, and spooky! The heart of the story that was so beloved in 1997 is still intact with even more fun and modern moments. It’s also the perfect movie to watch to get yourself in the Halloween spirit!
