Secret Agent Dingledorf and His Trusty Dog Splat is out and you should make sure to check it out as we got to talk to Cooper J. Friedman who plays the role of IQ.
COOPER J. FRIEDMAN Born in Southern California, Cooper followed his older brother into the acting world at age 5. He immediately landed over 20 commercials before making his big debut in the HBO series Togetherness starring Mark Duplass and Melanie Lynskey. Currently, Cooper stars in the soon to be released summer blockbuster family film Secret Agent Dingledorf and His Trusty Dog Splat alongside Paul Johansson. Passionate about anti-bullying and animal advocacy he lends his voice to support the SayNoBullying Organization in any way he can.
BSCKids: Tell us how you got involved with Secret Agent Dingledorf and His Trusty Dog Splat and a bit about your role.
Cooper J. Friedman: I first got a self-tape audition for the role through my agent/manager. After, I went in person for the callback audition to meet the producers and director. I saw some of my friends at the callback and we got to audition together. I did a chemistry read with Zachary Arthur and Shiloh Nelson, it was so much fun. It was really cool that we ended up booking the roles together and got to film together for two months. I play IQ in the film. IQ is smart, funny, and resourceful. He holds all the cool spy gadgets and gets to figure out how to use them throughout the film.
What was your favorite part of filming?
I think my favorite part of filming was getting to work with my friends. It really was a dream come true. Doing what I love with people that I was close to already was really something special.
Tell us something people would be surprised to learn about you?
I think people would be surprised to learn that I do not like any sweets except for gummy bears. I do not like chocolate, ice cream, cake, cupcakes, or candy. I have tried several times to eat some of these things and I just can’t acquire a taste for them.
Who do you think has taught you the most in your career? What has been your hardest role to date?
I think my dad has taught me the most in my career. He helps me with all my auditions. We go over the scenes together and we work on the lines together. He films my self-tapes, takes me to auditions, and takes me to set.
If you could guest star on any show or streaming series that is currently on the air which one would it be and why?
I would love to be a guest star on the Goldbergs. I have been watching the show since season 1 and I love all the characters and the 80’s references. I love 80’s movies and I love 80’s music. I think it would be a so much fun.
Who is your favorite stand-up comedian and what got you interested in that sort of work?
My favorite stand-up comedian is Jerry Seinfeld. I think I have watched every single episode of Seinfeld many times over. I have seen some of his stand up shows as well as watched Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. I would love to be a comedian on a tv show or possibly do stand up in the future. I love to make people laugh and I love to entertain.
Tell us a bit about your anti-bullying and animal advocacy work
I am really passionate about anti bullying and supporting organizations that help kids and adults who are bullied. I have been a part of saynotobullying.org for many years. I want to continue being an advocate for antibullying. I am also involved with Paw Works, they are an organization that rescues dogs from shelters or abusive homes. We got our dog Nugget from Paw Works. Nugget is the sweetest most adorable little dog. She is part of our family and I am so grateful to Paw Works for rescuing her and helping so many fur babies find their forever homes.
Why should everyone go watch you in Secret Agent Dingledorf and His Trusty Dog Splat?
Everyone should go see Secret Agent Dingledorf and His Trusty Dog Splat because it is a very funny, family movie. It has a great message and will keep you laughing. Who doesn’t need a good laugh right now, right?
