From the Desk of Zoe Washington is coming to Disney Channel as a live action movie we believe and we are so super excited as this is a great book that has the opportunity to provide so many discussions and talking points between family members. Author Janae Marks gives us a story of Zoe who is just starting to form a relationship with her father Marcus who is in prison, but Marcus tells Zoe that he is innocent. Zoe takes the help of her grandmother and friend Trevor, to try and gather the information to set her father free, and this will bring them down a very hard path that will open their owns on many different things that are happening in the world.
Disney has jumped right in to many different difficult subjects lately, Sydney to the Max being one of the series, and this has really been a great path they have gone down. We are enjoying that these sorts of shows are opening up wonderful dialog between peers and families. We are really looking forward to see the casting news for this show, and hopefully we get some information on that soon.
From the Desk of Zoe Washington
FROM THE DESK OF ZOE WASHINGTON – “From the Desk of Zoe Washington” centers around middle-schooler and aspiring pastry chef Zoe, who sets her sights auditioning as a contestant on Food Network’s “Kids Bake Challenge” the summer before seventh grade. One day, Zoe receives a letter from her father, Marcus, who was sent to prison right before she was born. Because Zoe’s mom has never wanted her to have a relationship with Marcus, Zoe keeps the letter a secret. Zoe and her father soon begin corresponding regularly and Marcus shares his favorite songs with her and is supportive of her baking-competition dreams. When Marcus proclaims his innocence, Zoe is shocked: How could someone innocent end up in prison? With the help of her grandmother and her friend Trevor, Zoe begins to learn about systemic racism and how Marcus may have found himself unjustly imprisoned and embarks on a quest to set her biological father free.
