Turning Red from Pixar now has not only a poster but also a trailer and we are pretty happy with what we are seeing right now. There is a lot of fun in the trailer, where it looks like we see Mei Lee transform into a giant red panda for the first time in school due to her mother, Ming, being on campus. We also get to see her run home with some great Backstreet Boys music playing to try and calm down so that she can transform back.
The one thing that Pixar does so well is handle teenager emotion in a realistic manner, while at the same time giving you a great story to work off of. Having Mei Lee have real emotions that can relate to kids and then the use of the red panda when those emotions get too excited is pretty brilliant. Love the character design and the animation, as it is Pixar after all. Turning Red is going to be a fun new film that we can see on March 11, in 2022. Will be interesting to see if we will still be getting releases on Disney+ and the theater at that time, but we hope so.
Growing up is a beast. Check out the new trailer for the upcoming all-new original feature film “Turning Red” from Pixar Animation Studios’ director Domee Shi, who won an Oscar® for her 2018 short film, “Bao.” Young actress Rosalie Chiang lends her voice to Mei Lee, a 13-year-old who suddenly “poofs” into a giant red panda when she gets too excited (which is practically ALWAYS). Sandra Oh voices Mei Lee’s protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming, who is never far from her daughter—an unfortunate reality for the teenager. Directed by Shi and produced by Lindsey Collins, Disney and Pixar’s “Turning Red” releases March 11, 2022.
