Along with the Let’s Talk Walt Disney Animation Studio Announcements we have a bunch of Pixar Announcements to talk about. There is a lot to unravel here and most of these are not based on current IPs or have a lot of information out there.
Win or Lose – This is going to be Pixar’s first long-form animated series and is going to debut on Disney+ a long time from now in 2023, but it is also the show that we are most interested in. Win or Lose is going to bring an interesting story as it follows a middle school softball team in the week prior to their championship game and it looks like each episode is going to be told from a different character’s perspective. This has the potential to really get deep into the feeling of teenage athletes and their relationships, kind of hoping for a Kicks or Mustangs FC vibe.
Turning Red – Mei is a teenage, and part of being a teenager is dealing with all the awkwardness that comes along with it. Where Mei is a bit different is that when she gets too excited she turns into a giant red panda. This feature film is going to show up in 2022 and while we have seen this sort of story before, we think that the Disney flair and story telling are really going to shine here. We are hopeful that it is really going to give that true teenager feel to it. Looking forward to having some hearty laughs with this movie. It is great to see Pixar really putting an effort for animated films that appeal to a teenager audience.
Lightyear – We didn’t know that we needed the backstory of the Buzz Lightyear toy, but we are going to get it with Chris Evans. Not all that excited for this one.
Luca – It is set in an animated Italy from Pixar. That alone would make me want to watch this film. Luca and his best friend Alberto are going to have an unforgettable summer and we are going to get to see it all. From the brief trailer this looks like it is going to show us a lot about just having fun and friendship, still left a bit wondering if there will be more to the story, but can’t wait to find out.
Pixar Popcorn – is going to be us shorts from all different films, yes please.
Dug Days – Dug and Carl living in suburbia with all sorts of new adventures. We are in on this as suburbia is just relatable to so many of us.
Cars Series – We are going to have new friends, old friends, new locations as Lightning McQueen and Mater take a road trip across the country. Remember how many toys Cars sold? Get them out again as this is going to bring the franchise back. We all loved Cars so looking forward to seeing more of Lightning and Mater.
