Ellarose Kaylor took some time out of her schedule to talk about her acting career, her ice skating career as well as letting us know that she is going to be involved in a Disney+ project.
Ellarose co-stared in the film NEXT LEVEL with Lauren Orlando, Emily Skinner, Chloe East, Brooke Butler, Hayden Summerall and Chloe Lukasiak. Ellarose acts, sings and dances in the movie and has three original songs on the film’s soundtrack. Ellarose is a competitive ice skater (Axel and doubles) and trains weekly. She skates singles, is on the Fusion synchronized ice skating team and was recently cast in THE LION KING ON ICE as Nala. Ellarose is active with Girl Guild a community of girls and young women creating a pathway to support and empower other girls.
BSCKids: Ellarose, tell us what you have been up to recently in front of the screen?
Ellarose Kaylor: On Saturday I just filmed a Disney Plus project that I am super excited about. I can’t announce the project yet but it was a lot of fun and a really great story and I was so happy to be a part of it. I am also about to film a thriller. I am super excited to film a scary movie. I love my character because it is like nothing I have done before.
Tell us bit about your role in Next Level and how you did three original songs on the soundtrack?
I loved playing Josie in Next Level. She was the youngest one at the performing arts camp and I was also the youngest one on set. All my cast mates where so nice and became like family to me. I learned so much from them all and they were all so supportive and extra sweet to me. Filming the moving actually felt like we were at summer camp because we got to act, sing, dance, be with friends, play pranks on each other and have yummy food! Josie as a character was really struggling when she first came to the camp because she was the youngest and she got made fun of but she was befriended by Kelly (played by Lauren Orlando) who became like her big sister! Josie later actually became helpful to Lauren and her struggles even know she was much younger. It was cool because you really saw Josie’s character gain confidence and strength and a sweet friendship between two girls that are years apart in age. I was so happy to have three songs on the Next Level soundtrack. Two I recorded for the film as Josie. She performed those songs in the camp. It was fun to sing and perform songs as a character. The third song was used in the film and it was a song I sang with my best friend Reese Herron. We actually just did the song for fun but the produced used in the film so that made us both very happy.
You have such a busy life it seems, how do you find the time to competitively skate with your other work? And how happy were you to score a role with The Lion King on Ice and how did that come about?
Yes my life is busy but I do make the time for ice skating because I love it so much. It takes a lot of time to practice but I only end up skating 3 days a week. Most of my friends skate more than me but that is all I can fit in and I don’t want to burn out. I still make time to play with my friends too. I was happy to get cast in the Lion King. I auditioned and I got the role! Unfortunately due to the pandemic that is on hold right now and that makes me so sad. We had been practicing for so long and we already had our costumes and everything. I hope we can do it one day.
How has your skating helped your acting career and vice-versa?
I think anytime you are performing it builds your craft. When I skate I have to do a lot of acting especially if I am doing showcases. I love being able to mix acting and ice skating. I am hoping one day I will be cast in an ice skating movie and I can do all my own jumps and spins.
Who do you feel has taught you the most in your acting career?
I think my acting coach Peter Story has taught me so much about acting and about my career I would say my manager Rikki Dale. She is really sweet and gives me lots of tips and words of encouragement.
Tell us something people would be surprised to learn about you?
I love to do improv! I really love to do funny skits and sketches. I recently launched a sketch on Reels on Instagram that I write and play every role. Its super fun. I also LOVE to dance. I don’t take dance class right now because of the pandemic but I do I love it and I love to make up fun dances with my friends around the house – we take over my moms room!
If you could guest star on any currently running show which one would it be and why?
I would love to be on the show Charmed or Outer Banks. My favorite YouTuber is Rebecca Zamolo and I would love to play a role in her Game Master Network.
What does a normal day look like for you?
Right now I am in Zoom school because our school is not open for in person class. So… I do school and then I either ice skate, have a play date, do dance, paint, voice practice or do gymnastics in my friend yard. Many times I have an event (now they are all drive in events) or an audition to do. (Auditions now are self tapes that you send in.) Some days I work on writing sketches or play with my American Girl dolls. (I still love my dolls!)
Anything coming up in the near future you can talk to us about?
I am actually working on a Holiday ice routine that I am super excited about because there is going to be a Holiday exhibition at another rink that I am doing. Also I am excited for this new project that I just filmed Saturday! I can’t wait to start to film this thriller AND I have a new song coming out that I am super excited about. It should come out in two weeks. Now that I am 10 I feel like my voice has gotten better and I just keep working with my voice teacher and my music producer. I love to sing so much. This song is called Just Believe- it has a very inspiring message.
