SYDNEY TO THE MAX – Disney Channel’s “Sydney to the Max” stars Ruth Righi as Sydney Reynolds. (Disney Channel/Mitch Haaseth)
Sydney to the Max is one of our favorite shows currently on Disney Channel as it has the perfect story for our daughter and the nostalgia of the 1990s for the adults. Ruth Righi does a great job as Sydney and we were offered the opportunity to discuss the show and her career with her.
Ruth can currently be seen starring as Sydney in Disney Channel’s hit sitcom, “Sydney to the Max.” The series, now in its second season, follows three generations of “Reynolds” under the same roof as outgoing Sydney lives with her single dad, Max (Ian Reed Kesler), and progressive grandmother, Judy (Caroline Rhea). The series includes flashback segments set in 1992 detailing the childhood of Max (Jackson Dollinger) and his friend Leo (Christian J Simon) who work at a shopping mall arcade. The series, which also stars Ava Kolker and Jackson Dollinger, first premiered in January 2019 and was recently renewed for a third season.
Let’s get into the interview with Ruth Righi below.
BSCKids: Tell us about your character on Sydney To The Max and let us know if you have anything in common with her.
Ruth Righi: Sydney is a fun, loving, rebellious girl who doesn’t take no for an answer. We have fairly different personalities, but we are both going through the same things and stand up for what we believe is right.
What do you think your favorite thing from the 1990s is?
I love the fashion and music. I kind of wish I had gotten to experience that decade because of all of the amazing artists that peaked during that time.
Do you have any funny behind the scenes stories during filming you call tell us?
The whole cast just continuously makes me laugh until I can’t breathe. Ava and I also do a lot of TikTok dances on set which is always super fun.
Where were you and what were you doing when you heard you got renewed for Season 3?
I, like everyone else in the cast, was actually at a table read for one of the episodes in season two. It was an amazing and unexpected surprise!
Tell us something people would be surprised to learn about you?
My grandma lives with my family just like Sydney.
If you could guest star on another Disney show from past or present which one would it be and why?
Probably “Shake It Up.” I LOVE the dance numbers and Zendaya is someone I look up to.

Who is your favorite person to follow on social media?
My favorite accounts to follow on social media are dog accounts. I get so happy when I see puppies on my feed haha.
What has been your favorite fan interaction to date?
Every interaction that I’ve had with someone who recognized me has been so heartwarming and sweet. They are all my favorite!
Tell us a bit about the charity work you have done?
When I was younger, I used to play piano on the street to raise money for the homeless shelter and AmpSurf (an organization that teaches veterans with amputations to surf).
I have also worked with the Saving Our Daughters program (co-founded by Keke Palmer) and the Ryan Seacrest Foundation. I’m really grateful for all of the amazing people I have met through these groups.
What has been your favorite thing you have made in pottery?
One of my favorite pieces that I’ve made in pottery is a simple mug that I initially didn’t like. After, I drew a giraffe on it and added texture and ended up loving it. I value this mug a lot because it reminds me to give every piece I make a chance, and not to judge based on first impressions.
Why should everyone be watching Sydney To The Max?
I believe that “Sydney to the Max” is a fun-loving show that the whole family can watch together. It also addresses topics that are difficult, yet so important. I believe the show has a good lesson in each of its episodes.
