JACKSON DOLLINGER, MELISSA PETERMAN
Sydney To The Max has been one our favorite shows lately and with the series returning on March 23rd it was a perfect time to talk with Jackson Dollinger who plays Young Max on the show.
Disney star Jackson Dollinger has been a child actor for many years and now is making a name for himself as he plays “Young Max” in Sydney To The Max. While acting, he is also an environmental activist, philanthropist for the youth, and avid skateboarder.
We have an exclusive with Disney Star Jackson Dollinger as he talks about his acting career and Sydney To The Max and would like to thank him for taking the time out of his schedule to talk to us.
BSCKids: Jackson, tell us a bit about your character on Sydney To The Max and how you landed the role.
Jackson Dollinger: I play Young Max on Disney Channel’s Sydney to the Max. My character is from the 90’s and I love to have fun with that. The audition process is filled with moments that I will remember forever. I originally self-taped for the role and then I was called in to audition in person. I was given the wrong location and so I missed the first audition all together. I thought for sure that was the end of the road. Thankfully, casting called me in for the next day and I went to the correct location this time and auditioned for the Producer. After that, I went in for chemistry reads, and to test. At my test, I actually ollied over a network executive in the conference room. Thank goodness I landed the trick! The whole process was a blast and I will never forget it.
Would you say you have anything in common with your character on the show?
Definitely! Young Max and I are very much alike! We are both definitely physically active. We both love to skateboard and play sports. Young Max is very close to his mom on the show and I am also very close to my mother. But, we are also very different. For example, I’m a straight A student and Young Max is not the most stellar student in the class. Young Max is also a little more of a risk taker than I am.
Tell us something that people would be surprised to learn about you?
I rarely play video games. I would much rather be outdoors.
What would you say your favorite thing is from the era of the 90s?
Great Question!! I really love the clothes. I always have a good time during fittings. It is super cool to learn about the technology and trends that were popular in the 90s as well. The music is also really good. I love to relive the era on screen and compare it to modern day. Afterall, what’s not to love about the nineties?
What is your favorite episode of Season 1 of the show?
That is so hard! I think my favorite one would probably be “Nightmare on Syd Street” because it was really fun to do scenes with Ruth and Ava. In addition, I did my own skateboard stunts in that episode, which makes it a particularly memorable one for me.
If you could guest star on any other Disney show which one would it be and why?
I would love to guest star on Coop and Cami. It would be super fun to work with Dakota, Ruby, Olivia, and Paxton and even do some Would You Wrather? videos!!
Any funny behind the scenes stories that have happened while filming that you can tell us about?
One time, we found a possum in wardrobe! It was hiding inside a bin and we had to call some of the guys that work on the lot to get it out. It started to crawl out of the bin and everyone started running and screaming. It was so LOUD in the halls! LOL.
Tell us about your work as an environmental activist, philanthropist.
I am an ocean conservationist and focus most of my efforts in advocating for the elimination of single use plastics and raising awareness with regard to the harmful effects that plastics have on the environment, our oceans, our food chain and even our bodies. It is important for the youth of today to understand the consequences of continued use of these plastics and encourage everyone to do everything in their power to stop using single use plastic now or we will all pay for it in the future.
What is your current favorite skateboard you are using right now?
My main skateboard right now is from a brand called REAL. I love it and I’ve probably had 6 other REAL boards in the past few years. I enjoy skating on them because they are really concave and their graphics are incredible.
Why should everyone tune in to watch Sydney To The Max?
There are so many reasons why everyone should tune in to watch Sydney to the Max. First, I think the premise of the show is unusual in the sense that it takes place in two different time periods. This really engages both kids and adults. Kids everywhere can relate to the characters and adults find it very nostalgic and relatable. Season 2 is packed with some hilarious shenanigans and there are also some incredibly heartfelt moments that should not be missed. I think Season 2 really gives viewers a better insight into Young Max’s childhood, his relationship with his father, and how that affected his parenting of Sydney in the present day. It’s gonna be a great season and I can’t wait to share it with the world.
