PIP, FREDDY
We love Jet Jurgensmeyer and have spoken to him many times about his career so it only makes sense that we find out how it is going on Disney Junior’s Tiny Ones Transport Service (T.O.T.S.) show where he plays Pip the penguin.
The comedy follows the adventures of best friends Pip and Freddy, a tenacious penguin and a kind-hearted flamingo, who are the only non-stork delivery birds in-training at Tiny Ones Transport Service (T.O.T.S.). Designed for kids age 2-7, “T.O.T.S.” stories suggest themes of positively interacting with and nurturing others while celebrating each other’s differences. Every episode has an original song and the recurring delivery anthem “Bringing This Baby Home.”
BSCKids: Tell us a bit about the character you voice, Pip the penguin.
Jet Jurgensmeyer: Pip the penguin loves his job delivering baby animals to their forever home. He is loving and adventurous and is always ready to take charge.
How did you get the role and what is your favorite characteristic about Pip?
My agent sent me in for the audition. I had worked with Disney over the years in live action and voiceover. We had several callbacks with the Disney team and then I finally got the call that I got the role! My favorite characteristic of Pip is that he is a born leader and seems to always be happy because he loves his job so much.
How much fun do you have working with Christian J. Simon, who plays Freddy the Flamingo and what have you learned from Vanessa Williams and Megan Hilty?
Sometimes Christian and I get to record together, but both of our schedules have been pretty busy this season so that hasn’t happened much. I haven’t recorded with Vanessa or Megan, but how cool would that be? I would sure love to.
Do you find voice acting harder or easier than doing a live action show?
I think they both have their challenges and can be so different, but still the same….if that makes any sense. In live-action, you go in and get into hair, makeup, wardrobe and you have a set with props. Some people think that voiceover work is easier. I guess the fact that you don’t have to get in hair, makeup and wardrobe is, but voiceover is so much fun. You get to be so creative in the studio. You have to make sure that you get your character and lines delivered in a way that stand out and really shows who your character is. The audience has to hear the action in your voice and the animators have to be able to show all those emotions.

PIP, FREDDY
If you could design a Pip plush, what would he be holding?
No question…His fly pad, not iPad. It has all of his flight plans and delivery info.
What do you think that parents will enjoy about the show?
I think parents will like the fact that we are not only entertaining for the kids, but we always have a good message and try to teach the young kids something.
In one sentence, tell us why T.O.T.S. is going to be a fun show for kids to watch?
T.O.T.S. is going to be a great show for kids to watch because of the fun story lines, the music, amazing animation and the great entertaining lessons that we have.
Thanks for Jet Jurgensmeyer talking to us about his role as Pip the penguin on Tiny Ones Transport Service (T.O.T.S.), and make sure to tune in FRIDAY, JUNE 14 (9:00 A.M. EDT/PDT) — on Disney Channel and DisneyNOW.
