It did not take long after, what would become an international blockbuster hit, Disney’s animated musical “Frozen” to open in theaters to leave fans wanting more. Somehow, as if by magic, the story of sisters Elsa and Anna have melted even the most frozen of hearts and forever let the seemingly anthem of the decade “Let It Go” become the biggest ear warm. Confess, the minute you heard the song title the lyrics and melody flooded your mind.
Some adore this winter-time tale, and some despise it with a passion. Regardless, it is crystal clear that “Frozen” has become something much larger than expected and meaningful.
Even after the film’s release on home media retailers remained flooded with various toys and goods with the likeness of the royal sisters and company. That still remains the case now- on a lesser extent, at least for now. With the highly anticipated and hyped next installment arriving in theaters later this year, you can bet there will be Olaf everywhere you look. And you just know everything will sell out ten times faster than before.
Since 2013 when the film made waves in theaters, we have been given a fair amount of new content that continue the adventures. From comic series, to books and even animated shorts. Plus, you know a Broadway production that keeps the fiery passion alive. But as great as all of that is- and it is- fans have been crying out for another film.
And Disney yet again delivers. Six years their story continues.
We may have to wait until November for the full story to unfold, but for now let us embrace the first trailer!
Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she’ll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey. In “Frozen,” Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In “Frozen 2,” she must hope they are enough. From the Academy Award®-winning team—directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, producer Peter Del Vecho and songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez—and featuring the voices of Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad, “Frozen 2” opens in U.S. theaters on Nov. 22, 2019.
Despite being dialog light- we get a ton from this trailer. The wait has been well worth it!
First off the animation; oh my. It is stunning, so much detailed that it is insane. The little touches like the detailing on Elsa’s dress alone just tell you how much work and effort went into each and every scene. I feel like the animators working on this not only went above and beyond, but put so much into this.
Now that I am done drooling over the production values, let’s talk writing. Even with the little narrative we got it tells us volumes. The first trailer for “Frozen” was far more light, airy and lighthearted. This time there is no beating around the bush just jumping right in, head first. Things look far more bleak, and there is clear foreshadowing in play.
The remark alone about before having Elsa’s powers being feared and now being scared that they aren’t enough is telling. Even though we had a traditional villain in the first film, much of the plot was driven by the internal struggles that Elsa’s powers centered back to. This time there has to be something even greater- and it has history.
“The past isn’t what it seems.”
Now that strikes a cord.
And it will be good. There has been so much speculation on Elsa’s powers- the reasoning, their origins and now it looks like the fan-theories will be put to rest. Now the countdown is on!
(Side note: did anyone else squeal with delight when Elsa and Anna hold hands. That relationship has come so far)
