With the opening of Shazam! only a few days away, it was a great boon for us to be able to talk to Faithe Herman, who plays Darla Dudley in the movie. You may also know Faithe as Annie Pearson from This Is Us.

Faithe can currently be seen as fan-favorite Annie Pearson, the youngest daughter of Randall and Beth, on the critically-acclaimed series. She stars alongside an all-star ensemble which includes Emmy award winner Sterling K. Brown, Justin Hartley, Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, and Susan Kelechi Watson to name a few.

BSCKids: Faithe, tell us a bit about how you got the role for Shazam! And about the character that you play.

Faithe Herman: I auditioned for the role of Darla Dudley in October 2017, and maybe a week or so later I received a call back to meet with Mr. David for a second audition. It wasn’t much longer after that before my team called to congratulate me because I was going to be Darla Dudley. I was nervous for a few weeks because I was still working on This Is Us. Everyone had to make sure my schedule would allow me time to go to Toronto. Eventually everything worked out in the end and it was an amazing experience.

BSCKids: How was it working with Zachary Levi on the movie?

Faithe Herman: Mr. Zachary is so much fun. We all had a great time on and off set. Mr. Zachary did an Escape room with us and that was interesting. The last room took us all quite a long time to get out of.

BSCKids: If you could have any superpower in real life what would it be and why?

Faithe Herman: I would choose flight to get me to LA faster because the drive from San Diego, where I live, to LA can be very long. I would use invisibility to disappear from bad guys.

BSCKids: Who has been your favorite celebrity to meet? What has been your favorite A-list event to go to?

Faithe Herman: My favorite celebrities I’ve met was Zendaya, Yara Shahidi and Michael B Jordan. My favorite A-List event to attend was the SAG Awards these past two years and the 2018 Emmys.

Things are not slowing down for Faithe. She will next be seen in the highly-anticipated film Shazam! alongside Zachary Levi. It is the next installment in the Warner Brother/DC Extended Universe and is set to release in April 5th, 2019. Faithe plays Darla Dudley, one of Billy’s group home pals who, alongside all of her friends, transforms into mystical superheroes known as “The Marvel Family.”

BSCKids: What is your current favorite television show and music group?

Faithe Herman: My favorite show is Series of Unfortunate Events and I love Ariana Grande’s music.

BSCKids: We love that Suburu commercial that you were in recently, tell us about the time on that set filming.

Faithe Herman: Thank you! It took two days to film that commercial. It was so much fun acting like a grandma and learning to play cricket. When filming commercials everything moves so fast because there’s not a lot of time. Some scenes I had to do over and over, and in different ways. At the end, it was so much fun to watch and even my mom cried.

BSCKids: How did it feel to earn a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series?

Faithe Herman: Wow! To win it twice was totally amazing! I felt so honored and grateful to be a part of such an amazing show and to be acknowledged by our peers was very rewarding.

BSCKids: What do you have in common with your character Annie Pearson on This Is Us?

Faithe Herman: I have a big family like Annie does and I am also the youngest. I think Annie is still developing and hopefully we can all learn more about her.

BSCKids: What does a normal day look like for you and what other hobbies do you have?

Faithe Herman: A normal day for me is waking up at 5:45 in the morning to get ready or school. I still attend traditional public school. Then, when I get home I play with my dolls or my dog Maverick, do homework and then help my mom with anything she needs.

Special thanks to Faithe Herman taking the time to talk with us, and make sure you go see her in Shazam!

Have three kids, two boys (18 and 16) and a girl (12). I had a grandfather that watched cartoons and read the Sunday funnies until he passed. I feel the same way and continue to watch the Disney channel in my 40s. Check out our BSCKids youtube channel Current favorite show is Amphibia.
