Recently we posted a piece about Caroline Romano working Jacob Whitesides on “Masterpiece” and now we are able to offer you even more insight into Caroline with an exclusive interview.
BSCKids: Caroline, tell us how you got to work with Jacob Whitesides on “Masterpiece”, how did it all come about?
Caroline Romano: I had always been a big fan of Jacob Whitesides and his music. We had a mutual connection, so I reached out to see if he’d be interested in working with me and he said yes!!
BSCKids: Who did you have the most fun performing with on stage and why?
Caroline Romano: I really enjoyed opening up for Daya because the crowd was super energetic and excited! Her performance was awesome and everyone was singing along, so it was a great night!
BSCKids: Why should everyone come and visit your home state of Mississippi?
Caroline Romano: Southern hospitality, good food, and sweet tea of course!!!!
BSCKids: What has been your favorite song to cover?
Caroline Romano: I love covering “I Don’t Know My Name” by Grace Vanderwaal because I think the structure of the song is so cool and it translates to the acoustic guitar really well. I also really love and relate to the message of the song.
BSCKids: How supportive has your family been with your career? When did you first know you wanted to be a singer?
Caroline Romano: My family has been so incredibly supportive! They are absolutely the reason I have gotten to where I am today. They love what I do as much as I do, and they’ve helped me chase my dreams in every way possible. I’ve always known I wanted to be a singer and performer, ever since I learned to talk really. By the time I was talking I was singing!
BSCKids: Tell us how you came to write your song “Inside” and what it means to you?
Caroline Romano: “Inside” is a song extremely close and important to me. I, like most young women, have experienced times of feeling inferior based on my appearance and feeling like I need to change the way I look to please the world. I wrote “Inside” when I finally realized that who I am had nothing to do with what I look like. I’m on the inside!
BSCKids: Tell us about the PACER Organization and your partnership with them?
Caroline Romano: PACER is a bullying prevention organization trying to spread awareness of bullying and the wide range of people affected by it. I’m partnered with PACER because I love what they’re doing, as it directly corresponds with the message I’m trying to relay with “Inside”.
BSCKids: What would you fans be surprised to learn about you?
Caroline Romano: I think they’d be surprised to learn that, despite how much I love and am comfortable with performing in front of large crowds of people, I tend to be awkward and shy in everyday life situations.
BSCKids: What has been your proudest moment as a singer so far and why?
Caroline Romano: My proudest moments as a musician are simply when someone tells me how much they appreciate and relate to my songs. It makes me so indescribably happy to know that people are enjoying my music.
BSCKids: If you could do a song with anyone (that you haven’t already worked with) who would it be and why?
Caroline Romano: I think it would have to be Ed Sheeran!! I’m pretty sure he’s a classified genius, and I’m just obsessed with his songwriting and his voice!!
BSCKids: What is your favorite Instagram post you have written on your account and why?
Caroline Romano: I really love my Instagram post announcing the release of “Masterpiece”! There’s paint all over my face in the picture, and I think it’s just really cool. I was excited to see people’s reaction to that one.
BSCKids: How do you think social media has changed the way that people can break into the music industry?
Caroline Romano: I believe social media has affected the music industry in positive and negative ways. On one hand, it’s easier for people’s music to get noticed through social media. However, there are so many opportunities to get noticed online that it’s easier to get lost in the crowd. You have to make a really big splash to get noticed.
BSCKids: What do you never leave home without?
Caroline Romano: Something to write with/on! I never know when a new idea for a song will hit me, so I always make sure to have either a pen and paper, or the notes on my phone to jot ideas on.
BSCKids: How is your debut album coming along and when are you hoping to release it?
Caroline Romano: It’s going great!! I’m writing and recording all the time. I’m really excited to share this new sound with people, and I’m hoping to release sometime in the spring of 2018.
Thanks to Caroline Romano for taking the time out to speak with us!
