This episode of DuckTales was exactly what we have been waiting for when the reboot was announced, it has everything we have been pining for. After seeing a lot of the Beagle Boys and mundane locations we have something altogether different as Scrooge, LaunchPad, the nephews, Webby and Donald all stop to help Gladstone Gander on their way to see a golden cricket.
Spoilers for “The House of Lucky Gander” are below, you have been warned.
DUCKTALES – “The House of Lucky Gander” – Donald competes with his cousin Gladstone Gander to impress Louie at a mysterious resort in Macaw, while Scrooge tries to lure the kids away from the resort’s endless distractions, in a new episode airing Saturday, October 14 (8:00- 8:30 A.M. EST) on Disney XD.
This episode had everything we enjoyed in the first series, but with a new twist, as well as a nod to the old comics. This is exactly how we remembered Gladstone from the comic. Even though he is looking for help from the family at the end it is really all about Gladstone, exactly how we would expect. We also have a bunch of magic and an exotic location, check and check, and at the end of the day Scrooge shows us why he a true adventurer.
Donald is growing on me this series as he is taking of bit of Launchpad’s role on the earlier series, which makes the character of Launchpad a bit of a waste so far, but hopeful he will get a few larger parts here and there. They are keeping him around so that makes me think that they have plans for him. They way that he ends up saving everyone though seems eh, we know that Donald is known for his temper and it is true to character.
Toad Liu Hai, the character that has Gladstone trapped, was a great character, and the casino that he was running was something different from the mythical tales we are used to from the older show and comics. While this is an episode that was shown out-of-order, it was very timely as we were starting to get worried that we wouldn’t see Scrooge for a while. This really brought the Donald vs. Gladstone story to the front of the audience and we hope that it is something we will see more of. For anyone that has been to a casino, the joke of Scrooge finally finding his way out was very funny and truthful, something totally catering to the adult audience.
DuckTales you are back on track and are keeping us on our toes with the change of different stories, destinations and adventures.
