Nathaniel Potvin took some time out of his busy schedule to talk to BSCKids about his role on “Mech – X4” as well as “A World Away.” We had a great conversation with him and we give you a little taste of that below. Make sure to check out both Disney XD’s “Mech – X4”, which starts Season 2 soon. “A World Away” seems like it is going to be a great movie, so make sure to check that out as well.
Nathaniel Potvin is the star of Disney XD’s “Mech – X4”, which returns for season 2 on September 9th. The show centers around ‘Ryan Walker’ (Nathaniel) who can control technology with his mind. He will next be seen in A World Away opposite Rowan Blanchard.
BSCKids: Can you tell everyone about your character on “Mech – X4” on Disney XD?
Nathaniel: My character’s name is Ryan Walker and Ryan is a high school boy who figures out he has a power and his power is that he can control technology with his mind. As soon as he figures out he has this power, a 150-foot robot is awakened. He finds out about this robot with his two best friends Harris and Spyder. They get in the robot and start using it and he learns that he can control the giant robot with his mind and the robot mimics his actions. He is just a normal high school kid that has the problem of being either a hero or a regular kid.
BSCKids: How would you say the character you portray is a little bit like yourself?
Nathaniel: I would like to say my character is a lot like myself. Ryan is a very determined young man. Whenever he puts his mind to something he’ll do it and especially if it is for friends or family. I feel like I am the same way, if I need to do something for friends or family or help them out in any way I will put my mind to it and do it. He is very young, easy-going sometimes and he loves to skateboard, which I love too as well. Ryan is a younger brother so he knows what that is like, as am I. I am a younger brother I have two older brother. Both being the younger brother, we both get pushed around a little bit as they want to be with the older kids and prove ourselves to our brothers.
BSCKids: How do you get along with the rest of the cast? Are there any sort of behind the scenes stories you can tell us on the set of “Mech X-4” ?
Nathaniel: We all get along together perfectly, we are like one big family. We have so much fun on set, there is always laughing going on, it is never silent. There is always someone cracking a joke or someone playing a prank. I remember one time while we were shooting Season 1 we had this really fun time playing inflatable soccer. We did that on set with the whole crew and we had so much fun running into each other and bouncing off each other.
BSCKids: So if there was another Disney show that you could guest star on, what would it be and why?
Nathaniel: It would be K.C. Undercover because Zendaya is amazing. Also I feel like I could use the work I’ve done on stunts on this show and incorporate it on that show.
We then talked a bit about how a K.C. Undercover and Mech X-4 crossover episode would be awesome.
BSCKids: What is the hardest part of acting on “Mech – X4” ?
Nathaniel: I feel like the hardest part of acting on my show is working with the green screen. When you work with the green screen you don’t actually see something there, they just tell you that there is going to be a monster there and you react to it.
BSCKids: Who do you think has taught you the most in your acting career?
Nathaniel: I have been working for a while now and I have been going from set to set learning so much from each actor and production.
BSCKids: Do you envision yourself doing more movie work? Where would you like to end up?
Nathaniel: I would love to end up on the movie spectrum, but also TV is such a great part of the industry. I do want to start bleeding into directing and producing my own things, eventually of course, with proper training.
BSCKids: What other hobbies do you have?
Nathaniel: I love rock climbing, I love hiking, I love going to the beach, I love fashion, I love driving around Los Angeles, cooking, finding new restaurants that are cool to go to. I love listening to music, I love finding new music.
BSCKids: So what is on your phone now then, music wise?
This artist Daniel Caesar, who is an up and comer, he has a really nice soulful feel to him. He is kind of airy, it sounds really great and I love what he uses with his simple beats and very melodic sound.
BSCKids: So how into Instagram are you? What is your favorite Instagram post of yours is?
Nathaniel: I love Instagram, it is my platform of choice. My favorite Instagram post of mine …
Nathaniel also lets us know that he just loves Boomerang on Instagram for his videos.
BSCKids: In “A World Away” how was it working with all the Disney alum like Rowan Blanchard, Landry Bender, David DeLuise?
Nathaniel: They are all amazing, working with Rowan and Landry was great, they were super gracious and we just became instant friends on set, we had a lot of fun. Working with David DeLuise, who is a huge star and huge alum from Disney was amazing as well. He brought a lot of wisdom over from “Wizards of Waverly Place” and he was a really funny guy. It is a great movie with a nice storyline and a huge adventure plot. It was cool locations as well and nice special effects, it was fun.
BSCKids: Can you tell us a little about your character you are portraying the movie, “A World Away” ?
This next question Nathaniel was nice enough to give us some of the plot information about the movie, which we are going to leave out
Nathaniel: My character, Henry, he is the smart kid, he knows a lot of things. He uses his brain and his smarts to help the kids, he is kind of like a detective, but a little more nerdier.
We talk a bit about how Nathaniel is working toward finding some charity work that is very close to him. He is just looking to find the right one.
BSCKids: As we get ready to watch Season 2 of “Mech – X4,” what would you want to tell people that haven’t seen the show on why they should watch it?
Nathaniel: Well if they haven’t seen the show they will love it. It is a huge action adventure for kids and an adults honestly, we cater to all ages. Everybody loves it. There are stunts, comedy, bigger and badder villains. There are really good themes of teamwork, comradery and family. Honestly I think it is hysterical too, it is a funny show, we have a lot of comedy. A fun rollercoaster experience.
Note: We transcribed this interview from a phone conversation that we had with Nathaniel and we did our best to put it in written form. This is not the whole conversation word for word. Please excuse any errors and we can fact check any issues with the original recording with a request.
