Superpowered Teens Arrive This Fall in The Gifted
A new television series from Marvel will debut on FOX this fall. The Gifted will follow the troubles of two normal teenagers who discover that they have fantastic powers. Set in the same universe as the X-Men, the first trailer for The Gifted was recently unveiled and can be seen below:
Andrew and Lauren are the two main characters, and regular people are fearful and mistrustful of mutants. There is even a comment in the trailer about how, “Dad puts people like us in jail,” so it looks like their father is responsible for rounding up mutants for the government. I expect this to instantly generate conflict once the kids’ powers are known.
The trailer shows some exciting action scenes. My favorite is the clip of a school dance (or other similar event) where the lights burst and you can see Lauren and Andrew struggling to escape the chaos. I also love the robotic spiders that show up in the trailer!
Andrew is bullied, and in one segment that is broken up through the trailer, he is held down in the locker-room showers while clothed. Toward the end of the trailer, he uses his powers to warp the shower fixtures in an impressive display.
Other mutants, Polaris, Blink, and Thunderbird are going to play roles in the show, and the show will loosely overlap and reference the greater X-Men cinematic and comic universe.
The Gifted is written by Matt Nix and directed by Bryan Singer, and features the following cast:
•Stephen Moyer as Reed Strucker
•Amy Acker as Kate Strucker
•Blair Redford as John Proudstar/Thunderbird
•Jamie Chung as Clarice Fong/Blink
•Sean Teale as Marcos Díaz/Eclipse
•Emma Dumont as Lorna Dane/Polaris
•Natalie Alyn Lind as Lauren Strucker
•Percy Hynes White as Andy Strucker
•Coby Bell as Jace Turner
•Joseph Morgan as an unknown character
