Bunk’d is a favorite show of the BSCKids’ writing team and everyone was thrilled when we got a chance to talk to Nathan Arenas who plays Jorge.
Born and raised in the Los Angeles – area, Nathan was drawn to the entertainment industry at 9-years-old. Nathan began studying with the Actors Giving Back program, a talent development program and acting school and landed his first audition he went out on that same year for Disney’s “Bunk’d.” He has also appeared as a guest star on FOX’s “New Girl.”
BSCKids: Nathan, tell us a bit about your character on Bunk’d.
Nathan Arenas: Well, Jorge is a REALLY out going kid with a very expanded imagination and at first you might think you know what kind of a kid you’re dealing with but when you ACTUALLY get to know him he’s a really sweet and cool kid NOT counting the fibs. You’ll have to meet him!
BSCKids: How was your audition for Bunk’d?
Nathan Arenas: My audition process for Bunk’D was surprising because I actually had to go through three auditions one for camera, second for producers, and third for creator and director. It was very nerve wracking going up for a role that I knew that I was going to get to work with actors that I have been watching since I was 6 years old!
BSCKids: How has it been working with Peyton and the rest of the stars on the show? Have they taught you a lot?
Nathan Arenas: It is definitely an honor working with all of those amazing and talented actors, which I consider family because we have all been working together for 2 years and hopefully more!! Yes, they have definitely taught me a lot. Mainly how to deal with things like camera angles and also to always be humble, which I want everyone else to also know that you always have to stay humble.
BSCKids: Do you have an similarities with your character in real life?
Nathan Arenas: Me and Jorge have a pretty good imagination and well of course the HAIR!!!!
BSCKids: Have you ever been to camp? If so how was it? If not what do you think would be the scariest part and funniest part of being away at camp?
Nathan Arenas: I have actually never been to camp, maybe the scariest part would be all the wildlife because you never know what’s going to be roaming around.
BSCKids: How do you get into the role of Jorge before filming?
Nathan Arenas: The way that I get into the role of Jorge is actually just by putting on my wardrobe and then I start rehearsing my lines. By the time that they call me down to set I feel like I’m a whole different person.
BSCKids: What would be in your backpack if you were going to camp for the summer?
Nathan Arenas: If I was going to camp the things that I would take in my backpack would be bug spray, 2 pairs of joggers, 2 pairs of shorts, 6 pairs of socks, 7 pairs of boxers, 3 decks of cards, and of course my hair products!
BSCKids: Any funny behind the scenes stories you can share with us from the filming of Bunk’d?
Nathan Arenas: While filming ‘Tidal Wave’ in the scene where I’m trying to get gum out of my hair by using peanut butter and instead of putting it on my hair I end up eating it we actually had to film that episode various times, so what ended up happening was me getting sick and it go to a point that just by looking at peanut butter I would feel sick!
BSCKids: What, besides your own show, was your favorite Disney show of all time and why?
Nathan Arenas: Of course my favorite show was Jessie because it had a really funny plot about a nanny taking care of 4 kids and the carnivorous lizard! Also they had a butler who was hilarious.
BSCKids: If you could guest star on another Disney show which one would it be and why?
Nathan Arenas: I would want to guest star on “Stuck in the Middle” because I’m friends with the whole cast and we all love each other, also I think it would be fun playing a neighbor or even a cousin.
BSCKids:What can we expect to see from Nathan in the next few years?
Nathan Arenas: In a few years or even maybe next year you will hopefully see me either in a movie, an animation, or even on another TV series!
BSCKids: What is your goal as an actor?
Nathan Arenas: My goal as an actor is to make people laugh and smile, even cry if I’m supposed to be dramatic, but definitely to make people smile and enjoy what they are experiencing either in the cinema or in their homes!
BSCKids: Tell us a bit about your hobbies.
Nathan Arenas: My hobbies are close-up magic, card magic, piano, both acoustic and electric guitar, drums, singing, and drawing!
BSCKids: Do you have any pets? Hopefully nothing as big as Mrs. Kipling.
Nathan Arenas: I have little beta fish! I used to have a Yorkshire Terrier named Cookie and she was so cute and playful but she unfortunately is no longer with us.
BSCKids: Why should everyone be tuning in to watch you on Bunk’d?
Nathan Arenas: People should be tuning in to watch me on “Bunk’d” because everyone needs to have a moment of laughter every day! Also because the show will just keep getting better and better!!
