If you might recall back in late August we here at BSCKids gave you your first look at the all-new book series, “School for Dragons.” This new non-fiction book series features everyone’s favorite faces from the massive hit “How to Train Your Dragon” merged the worlds of fantasy and reality into a book.
From the fanatic minds over at JumpStart, the brilliant characters from DreamWorks and the mega publishing house Random House comes “School of Dragons.”
In September, the first two books “Volcano Escape!” and “Greatest Inventions” hit retailers, and the third book was slated for release in early 2017. And now that the 2017 has arrived upon us and is in full swing- so is the arrival of the third “School of Dragon” novel. And this time it’s all about weather.
I adore the fact that “Storm Approaching!” was released when it was. As we are still in the mists of the wintery days, there is a lot of focus on weather. More so if you live in a region that gets snow- and a lot of it at that. But sometimes, even as you grow older, when you listen to the weather forecast. Or bring it up on an app. Things run together and some of it might as well be in Greek.
From snow and rain, to heat and thunderstorms “Storm Approaching!” gives a great break-down of every kind of weather there is. And it makes it fun and engaging. As each specific type of weather is explained, it also notes how critical it is to be prepared for extreme weather instances. Even offering links to be able to gain even more additional information.
Yet not even once does it feel overwhelming. Everything is so well defined and detailed. And naturally all of the character’s on-going commentary is brilliant and lively. Seeing them will bring a smile to any fan’s face.
But perhaps my personal favorite part is the experiment examples that can be done at home to highlight some of the weather effects.
There is a lot for which to commend “School of Dragons.” The fact the books are formatted in such a way that you can pick and choose what chapters to read in any order. The great examples, extra reference points and vivid photography. Once more I find myself wishing that this series had been on shelves when I was growing-up.
This is a series that started out strong and fells like it is getting stronger. I am excited to see what the future installments will be.
