Since 2010 MGA’s line of dolls known as Lalaloopsy have become a favorite of fans of the brand and doll slash toy collectors alike. With their rag doll-esque style meshed with individual characteristics, it quickly caught on. In 2010 they were proudly declared to be the hottest new product of the holiday season.
And now almost seven years after their first release these girls still remain favorites. And highly collectible. Over the years, like with other brands, Lalaloopsy has grown and expanded. With new ranges of dolls, new play sets, add ons and natural characters, the collection has kept fans excited to add new additions to their ever growing collection.
As if the dolls, assorted toys and more wasn’t enough. Lalalopsy brought their characters to life with the first of what would become many animated specials. A new full-lengthen animated series made its way to Nickelodeon to the delight of fans and children all over the world.
The Nickelodeon series, simply titled “Lalaloopsy” ran for a length of two season with a total of fifty-three episodes before completing its run in late 2015. Since then there hasn’t been any new animated content for the beloved series. That is until now. A brand-new “Lalaloopsy” series is headed your way – and this time it’s exclusively on Netflix.
According to the press release from Netflix, the new series is titled “We’re Lalaloopsy,” and it will be available for streaming on January 10. The series will be 13 episodes long featuring a musical addition to the franchise. The show follows the incredible misadventures of six creative friends and their silly pets as they explore their extraordinary world.
“We’re Lalaloopsy” begins when an unexpected visitor, Storm E. Sky (and her pet Cool Cat), blows into town — turning Lalaloopsy Land upside down. Outrageous artist Spot Splatter Splash and her pet Zebra, dreamy perfectionist princess Jewel Sparkles and Cat, and fastidious baker Crumbs Sugar Cookie and Mouse and other fun Lalaloopsians will join up with Storm to whisk young viewers away on adventures that celebrate the Magic of Creativity — complete with original songs.
As MGA’s other property “Project MC2 “has also found a home on the streaming service (as well as other Lalaloopsy content). The transition isn’t that shocking in the least. More so as we continue to see the ever-growing streaming service acquire other titles and even commission other series. Marathon Media’s “Lolirock”, the English adaption of “Pretty Cure” “Glitter Force” and even Rainbow’s “W.O.W- World of Winx” come foremost to mind.
In the grand scheme of things Netflix is arming themselves with not only great content, but a wide variety that will be able to capture a wide-range of viewers. And adding Lalaloospy into this mix also confirms just how much focus and thought they are giving towards any and all animated content.
That in addition to more and more viewers choosing to stream their content on services rather than tradition cable. The luxury of being able to watch an entire season in one sitting- anywhere you can access the web-site or app. I fail to see how this is a bad thing.
If anything this might just help Lalaloospy grow even more than they already have.
Be sure to stream the brand-new series “We’re Lalaloospy” only on Netflix on January 13th, 2017.
